rear growl - also unrelated squeaks when brakes aren't applied-goes away when are
First post, so I hope this is right area of forum.
I took my 2002 GrCherokee QuadraDrive in for a slight growl coming from the rear on very sharp and tight turns, especially U turns. The growl is not loud usually but sounds like something is not right. It won't do it when cold out (below 40 degrees) Two mechanics agree something not right and then discovered both rear axle seals had lots of buildup from probably a small leak.
They replaced the axle seals and put a differential additive in to see if it fixes the growl. They also replaced the rotors and put brand new thermo quiet pads on. The vehicle was under warranty for the seals and growl, but not the brakes, so I'm very gracious for the rotor and pad replacement for free.
Problem is now the brakes squeak when I don't hit the pedal. Very noticeable and annoying. When I apply brakes the squeak goes away. Is this normal that a squeak is now heard when not applying the brakes with brand new rotors and pads? I have heard of a new brake squeak/break in period, but isn't that supposed to only be when you apply the brakes.
-- Growl not fixed - still happens only on very tight slow turning
-- Squeaking while driving goes away when I apply the brakes
Thanks for any help or ideas on what to do.
