Purchasing from Grainger

I am starting an OBA project and have a friend who Jeeps and the deal is that I get all the parts and she will help me.(she has OBA on her Sahara). I went to Grainger's website and found that it is wholesale only. How does everyone else purchase from Grainger? so obviously I do not have an account number. I found a great write up that listed all parts so I am trying to purchasing all of the fittings, adapters and gauges, etc. Found the compressor, just need to get these other things. No disrespect to Kilby, but I am already having to purchase the bracket/clutch and these other things can be purchased for alot less.

My company has an account and I just use that. If the company you work for has an account there, just walk in and tell them where you work and you can buy anything you want as long as you pay for it with your own funds. The guy at the counter said that he has never heard of a company not letting their employees use the account because the more the company spends there, the better discount the company recieves.

wholesale my ***. grainger sucks...way overpriced. The "wholesale" bit tis garbage, the're too elite to sell to the regular Joe. Try Mcmaster.com, best site for industrial supplies.

Grainger will sell to individuals, you just have to give them a "business" name. So you fill in that field with "John Doe's Automotive," or something like that.

But I never order from Grainger anyway. They are over-priced. Check out McMaster Carr or MSC. Personally, I usually use MSC. Here are links...

I use Grainger quite a bit and they are ok on pricing if you use them often. What are the Grainger part numbers you need? I will see what my pricing is and let you know, will be better than the catalog.

Just checked employee discounts and MSC is on the list. Never ordered from here so I don't know what kind of discount I get. This is making it easier to get the little parts. Great help from everyone.

Well I am lucky to have a grainger in my town so I don't have to order from them I jsut go down there and pick it up. My friend has his own company so I just tell them that I am from there but it really doesn't matter. I like checking out there clearance items though some really good buys. I got a set of 8 two ton tie downs for like $12.

Yep, It's a lot easier to get an account set up on the internet than it used to be in the "real world": I just put in our ranch as a business, and it's been open ever since. I'll agree with you about their pricing, but sometimes that's just where you have to get stuff. McMaster is fairly overpriced, too: they're the king of one & two part orders.
