offroad vendor SALES PRICING

Im not sure which section/category this should go in...It is kinda a rant, kinda a question...

I get a lot of emails and flyers regarding memorial sales, or new years sales, or 4th of july sales, or mother's day sales.

each one offers some percentage off deal...

BUT, they really arent anything special....do the companies really think they are special? or do they think I won't notice that the prices are the same and that somehow i will be tricked and incensed to actually buy something NOW, rather then later?

i.e. there is a notice for 25% off for memorial day, (up to 25%)... so, some items are 5%, some 10, some 25%..

but, there are always sales items... shocks, buy 3, get one free.... tires, same thing.

repeat customers get 10%, but, only 1 discount at a time?

or, am I missing something?

can I get a memorial day special rate and a repeat customer discount?

are there any true specials out there, EVER?

vendors typically have a price match policy, so does that mean they collude and have prices fixed so that a potential customer can't possibly find a deal anywhere, and it's just a matter of not getting taken for too much ???

anyways, any thoughts or input would be appreciated

btw, Im looking for a lift kit, or a lift upgrade... I am thinking I want bds or OME springs, but different shocks then what they offer...

unless someone can tell me why that isnt a good idea? are shocks TUNED for a specific spring? and if so, how can that be, unless they also know how heavy my jeep is, and whether or not I have beefy bumpers or a winch, or if I am overweight?

hehehe

thanks

You're 56 years old and haven't figured out how marketing works yet?

I don't think that companies get together on pricing, isn't that illegal? What they do is market research, cost analysis, and determine a suitable price for the product. There are even college classes that deal with this so it really isn't a secret how it's done.

Yes, most companies let you apply only one discount on a purchase. Some will let you apply your available discount to the entire purchase and some will limit your discount to a single item.

Unless it is some type of adjustable shock the shock is what it is. Some are good for an "average" rig, some aren't.

Are you overweight? Can't tell from here. How tall are you and how much do you weigh?

im 56 but feel like Im 15....rather, think like Im 15...

and yes, Im overweight... when I was 15, I woulda killed to have an extra 20lbs.... now, I want to get rid of an extra 100... ugghhh... it's a good thing I am tall.... or I would look like the michelin man... or, maybe i do, and no one is telling me that...

i have never gotten 'marketing'.. I have never 'succumbed to marketing'... I would never buy a beer because of their superbowl commercial... nor buy anything with anyone's name on it... (at least not directly that I know of)...

anyways, I am just kinda frustrated as I got an extra amount of memorial day emais yesterday telling me I had one more day left, then this morning I got more emails telling me that they extended the sales until this weekend... hehehehe

I got an idea... how about BEATING other companies prices, instead of matching them... not only will the normal people who need to replace and repair things will buy stuff, but those who are kinda ON THE FENCE, and thinking of UPGRADING, a true motivation to pull the debit card out of their wallet....

maybe they won't make the KILLING they thought they would but they wuold still make a little extra... i.e. volume... at least that is what I remember from time in school... but then again, I have already admitted I am a socialist at heart...
