there was a write up by one of the 4 wheel mags and had a HF winch. it never failed! beat out most of the big names at a fraction of the cost.

not sure if new one is same or not though

I have the old model HF winch but they have a new model that is supposed to be sealed against water. I have had mine for a year and have it covered with a cover I made from a spare tire cover and it looks nothing like the above pictures. That one looks as if it was driven on very salty roads without cleaning of the salt build-up.

Nope, just sat on the bumper of my jeep parked outside, unused and not even driven around

I'm guessing op is asking about the new style winch, looking at the hf site they are a different style. No experience with it, had an old style on my bumper for several yrears now. Seldom used, no complaints and def doesn't look like the above. Only rust is on the rollers.

I just got my fourwheeler mag in the mail last night. They did a new "shootout" with 8 different brands, Milemarker and Ramsey didn't pony up demo units. The Summit winch (China) went up in smoke, first try no load.
The HF unit didn't even work new outta the box. Warn tested well, not 1st place, but the only product of the bunch not entirely farmed out to China.

My buddy got a10,000 one from HF and IV seen him use it a few times and it works really good and he bought it used from another guy . The one in the picture above. was clearly not taken care of at all. Every part on it looks beat to **** . Compared to the one my buddy has. The coil in the picture is not even wrapped up good so you no the owner did take care of it.

I talked to the manager of the local Harbor Freight yesterday about the new winch. I can trade my older style 10,000 lb winch even for a new style 9,000 lb winch or for a small up-grade fee go to the 12,000 lb winch. The next time that I go to Harbor freight I will take my old winch and trade it in for a new one.
