New 97 4cyl!!!!! Ive got a lot of questions?

First Question:I just bought a 97
4cyl soft top
1/2doors 4.11 gears 31x10.5/15s looks great nice to 4x4 with, great around town. But on the hiway if I hit a breeze or a slight incline Im shifting down and even then 4th is no hell. Is this normal, If I were to regear what do you put in 4.56 or 4.88. Or do I drop in tire size? But what would be enough to get 5th gear back 235/75R15 or 225/75R15

Next Question:What can be used from a YJ I would like to get a hard top and hard doors or at least hard upper doors but I need to know if what models are compatable. PLEASE if any one can answer any of the above questions please do. Im a service tech and if I didnt have to leave town the lack of power wouldnt bother me but I am on the hiway quite regularly.

I don't know, but if anyone says "Man, you should have gotten the I-6" then...well then they are really lame. The 4 bangers are sweet engines, and you're trash if you have anything to say about them.

Note: This was a flame-preventive post....

Regearing would be a good way to go about it and would benefit you off road as well. The four cyliner is a good motor albeit underpowered , there are a lot of products available to squeeze more power out of it

i too have the four cylinder and the times I ride on the highway I too wish for a little more power. But I'm am now doing 65-70 on the highway!!! I have a good intake system and I put 93 Octane gas in it. It runs great even with the bigger tires. Exhaust system is comming soon so I'll probably get a little more with that too.

I agree with what everyone has said. Of course, you'll never get enough power out of the 4 banger to keep up with the I-6, so don't expect it. I'd also start out with the engine mods since they're fairly cheap. I was quoted $1,000 to regear mine. Needless to say, I haven't done it yet. I've only done a few mods to mine (4.0TB, drilled holes in airbox, spark plugs properly gapped and a tune up). IMO, none of these will do much individually, but together, they should give you a noticably difference. Just do a search or look through the old posts and you'll find plenty of info to help ya. You can also look at http://homepage.mac.com/jyokomura/tech/index.html

They've got some good articles there. Of course, it's a Jeep. Not the most aerodynamic vehicle on the road. If it's windy, it feels like I'm dragging a parachute behind me. HTH
