Okay since this is so enticing for me and yours turned out so damn nice, I have a couple of questions for you.

What exactly were the supplies you bought, the amount of the item (paint, rollers etc), and the price you spent?

How much time did this all take? (From parking it in the garage and preparing, to reinstalling the painted parts)

I spray bombed my dark green CJ5 the brightest Krylon yellow I could find and after wet sanding it ended up like a mirror

No, no.....I mean, Home Depot for example, can/does mix oil or latex paints to match any sort of color sample you bring in by placing it in their computerized photo sensor. Typically, paint is mixed by adding the different pigments needed to a neutral base....I don't know if Rustoleum even makes a neutral base or if they could use white. Has anyone ever had Rustoleum or Tremclad custom mixed and if so, where and what was the outcome?

Also, wansn't it a b!tch to paint the windshield crevices and such? I was looking at my jeep today and I noticed all the different areas that would need to be painted on the inside as well and it kind of turned me off on the subject.

I think most folks feel it's worth the effort because you get a quality paintjob for less than $100......seen any bodyshop quotes for paintjobs lately? YIKES!

Wow, so you "painted" the whole thing in Herculiner, then painted that blue? That is just sick. I just painted my car pretty much this same way (1989 Beretta) but I would have NEVER thought of using herculiner with this sort of application!
Absolutely awesome.

Well, no. He put Herculiner on the Inside of the Jeep--Floor boards, wheel wells, etc. He painted the outside blue, and some areas of the inside that leave paint exposed.

I must commend you on the great painting job. Those pictures of the Jeep all put back together are amazing, the blue and black looks very good. Great job.

Sorry I did not answer you sooner. I haven't had time to check this out for a while. I really didn't keep track of what everything cost. I really should have because that was the main point. However, it all depends on what you already have. I wound up buying everything, from the plastic sheeting I put down to any cloths I used. Also factor in the Herculiner, any tools that I didn't have, which was a lot. Buying the Rockers, even saw horses I used to make another bench to work on. MY - total for everything including tools I had to buy that I didn't have probably brings my total to about $700

If you are only buying the supplies to paint, not including the herc. It shouldn't cost more than $100.
The main paint supplies where:

2 cans (quarts I think) of the rustoleum. I didn't even use all of it.
Mineral Spirits.
2 packs of the 3-pack small yellow rollers from HD.
A mini paint tray.
Blue painters tape.
A big sheet of plastic. Got mine at HD for $3 I think.
A mask or two helps.
400, 600, 800, 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper I got from advance auto parts.
Some 60, 100 and green pads. Used to rought the factory paint.
Krylon Fusion for the flares.
Rustolem high performance (spray) used for the inside of the winsheild.
Decals I bought were about $40.
A sponge

Thats about everything for just the paint. I also fixed my bumper, herc'd the inside and roll-bars. bought the rockers unpainted so I had to buy paint for them. Bought a bunch of new tools, from sockets to a little red craftsman stool and creeper. Some extra lighting from harbor freight when I was working at night. A fan to blow the fumes out of the garage. It can add up quick so make sure you know what you are getting into.

As for the amount of time, I'm not really sure. I guess I started in late Febuary, early March. Taredown took a lot longer than expected. Then the prepping. I made sure to do it right the first time. I tried to work on it for an hour or 2 every night afterter work. I did miss a full week here and there. I wanted to let each coat of paint dry overnight also. I finished up the painting and reassembly in late may. Now, if you had a full week with nothing else to do you could probably knock it out. Took a while but it was fun and I did it myself

JEEPTJ97 cleared up the confusion, and thanks for the complements. But styluss, that is funny that you see this becuase I was on your site when I was doing this. I originally was reading off that mopar forum thread and about half way through my project I found yours and was given even more hope that it would turn out ok. I must have read it 5 times. Good work on doing it outside. That must have been tough. Yours turned out great. Really impressive. I never would have even guessed you were on a jeep forum.

I rolled the paint on. I don't think brushing would work at all. Look at the first page of this thread. The foam roller is in the picture with the paint sitting on top of it. The are high density foam. I got mine at home depot in a 3 pack. Used 2 packs. I also bought a pack of small foam brushes for dabbing in hard to reach areas.
