Bumper going back on and some new decals.

I also had some extra paint and my exhaust looked pretty bad.

So its all done. I have to say I am very happy with the results so far. I still have some things to do like install my flushmount tailights and get new fender flares because it just failed my inpection today. Stupid N.J. I swear this state has it priorities so backwards. All the crime in Camden and north Jersey. All the illegal immigrants taking jobs. And they fail me during inspection because my tires are and inch father than my fenders. Its almost not even worth it to have a jeep in this state. Anyway...... Its done. It took a long time and was a lot of work but I like it. Like I said in the beginning, this may not be your thing and wonder why I would do this. Or, you can be like me and like to try new things. Either way, everyone is entitled to their opinion. If you have any questions let me know. I'm sure there is a ton of stuff I forgot to mention. I should have been doing the write-up as I was doing the project but that would have taken forever.

In Texas I failed the yearly emissions test one time because there was a pea-sized hole in my exhaust pipe about 3 inches from the END of the pipe! I asked the guy how in the world this was going to make any bit of difference and he didn't have an answer other than to say they couldn't let things like that slide anymore. That's when I was determined to buy a 25+ year old Jeep that would be exempt from the yearly emissions test.

Looks good and I'm definitely not trashing you, but so far no-one has been able to adequately answer a question regarding this method.

Why spend all the time to do this? 8'ish coats with color sanding in between and a couple - three weeks of time, when you could have shot it in 2 hours (work time) in 2 coats using 1/8th the amount of the exact same paint?

2 coats per color, 1 weekend of mainly dry time, didn't sand a lick besides scuffing the paint.

Valid point. 1st, I guess I liked the fact that this was so easy even though it took a while. I had to do it in my garage so I didn't want spray all over the place and only had to do minimal masking. You could probalby get this done in 2 or 3 days going by the dry time on the can but I liked to give it a full day in between coats. Mostly because I had so much other stuff going on it kinda worked out like that. I am a novice at everything I do and teach myself as I go so the spray aspect seemed a little harder. This is something I knew I could do as long as i took my time. The point of this project was the low cost. I know a decent spray gun is probably $35 or so but that is another cost that would have to be added to the equation. I almost didn't beleive this would work an kind of had to prove it wrong. But in the end it did and I'm happy. I guess that didn't really answer your question or give you a good reason but thats pretty much all I have. Your's does look nice though.

I was really skeptical of the color, but when everything is back together, it looks real good. Nice job on a unique Jeep.

Matt, the final product looks killer!

I'm in the process of rattle canning my heep's hood, cowl and windshield frame with color-matched paint from Paintscratch.com.

One of my buddies asked all of the same questions you were asked:
Why not take it to Maaco? Why not get a spray gun and do it "right"? Why not etc....

Who cares...the end result makes up for it!

Spraying automotive paint has a big learning curve, you usually cut your teeth doing the primer work. And you'll still screw it up. But rustoleum is a whole other game, it's so simple you have to try to screw it up. I could probably teach how to do it in less than a minute of demonstration and then cut you loose. I shoot everything outside in the wind and the dirt and I still have no worries. But I do consider a little overspray in the garage as being on par with oil on the concrete. A real car guy's garage is going to have it

I did my first rusto job 7 or 8 years ago with rattle cans on a truck I paid $300 for. I sold the truck back to the guy I bought it from for $1500. He didn't know it was the same truck until he sat in it But I spent more $$$ on the cans then I would have to buy a gun (which I already had) and paint. Back then I didn't even know you could buy the stuff by the gallon. I've used it on every paint job since and won't venture into 'real' automotive paint until I do my next hot rod.

If you can't tell, I love this stuff!
