My Costco Q-Maxx / MV50 Compressor build

Last June, based on the excellent MV50 vs HF compressor thread, I purchased the little red compressor. I soon got sick of always unpacking it, finding room to store it and when in use always balancing on the fender (and at times falling). Then one day during a rushed wheeling trip I lost the yellow coil hose.

So I decided on a more permanent setup. The metric threaded (12mm with a 1mm pitch, if I recall) weird sized air connector, won't take a standard air hose coupler. So I removed the head and tapped the threads to 1/4" NPT. I added a new air connector aswell as a 1/4" elbow with a 1/4" MIP to 3/8" barb.

I drilled drainage holes in the bottom of the casing and mounted the compreesor on the ABS tray, securing it with a 9" tarp strap.

I drilled a 3/8" hole in my Airaid intake tube and used another 1/4" MIP to 3/8" barb fitting. Then used about 4' of yellow spray hose to connect the compressor to the Jeeps air intake.

I then discarded the crocodile clips and attached the new electrical connections to the aux terminals on my blue top Optima.

I purchased a new 25' coil hose. This coil doesn't kink and has excellent memory. I salvaged a clip on hose assembly from an old tire inflator gun. No more screwing and unscrewing the schreider valve connector like on the old yellow hose.

Overall, I'm happy with this new setup. I'm sure it'll make life easier.

This is very similiar to what I did. Except I mounted mine where the stock A/C compressor goes ( I don't have A/C) and I am just using the stock air filter. The compressor works great for the price. I don't know about using that strap though. I removed the rubber feet and used to holes to bolt the compressor down.

Very clean setup, newbie question : what is the purpose of routing the air hose into your intake?

it is the air intake for the compressor. routing it into the jeep air intake makes it so the compressor has filtered clean air, and wont get damaged by dirt entering the compressor.

I did something similar today. Did not change out the connector or stock hose, it reachs all tires on my LJ even the spare. I do like you sexy hose though Here are a couple pics. I plan on running the intake hose through my stock intake similar to what you did. Another days little project I also changed out the pressure gauge that came with it, it was 5 psi off...

I have one of those, I like it alot. I plan on hooking it up to a airtank. How hard was taping the whole to fit a normal air fitting?

My little compressor is still running strong after this winter. It seems to be protected fairly well on top of the wheel well were i have it. I have even washed my engine a couple times at the car wash and sprayed the compressor off. I think for the price it's a hell of a little compressor setup.

I did something similar on my last jeep. The next one i do will have about 1' of 1/2" copper to help dissipate the heat generated. My hose was getting mushy from the heat, and popping off the barbed fitting, even when the hose clamp was tight as hell.

The compressor has it's own intake... it has a little foam filter on it. I actually never hooked it up to my intake, still running the way it came out of the box, no problems
