Leaky Valve Stem - Gorilla Flush Mount Valve the Answer?

I currently have ProComp soft 8 series 98 wheel with 33x12.50s on them. They have chrome valve stems currently. Problem is they tend to leak where the stem meets the wheel. I have already replaced one of them and now another is leaking. Anyone used the flushmount Gorilla valve stems?

Is there a valve stem that holds up to airing up and down?

I wouldn't use any type of metal valve stem. Instead of giving when they hit something, they will tend to bend/crack/break.

What's wrong with the time proven, reliable, inexpensive rubber valve stem? They've done a good job for decades and are what most off-roaders (and on-roaders) use. They might not be as flashy as a set of chrome valve stems but they do work well.

go to your local tire shop and have them put some short rubber valve stems in. they are cheap. ask the sales person to put on the ones with a chrome sleeve if you want the flashy look. plus they are short, so if you happen to catch them on something there is not much to hit. they will flex out of harms way.

Thanks for the tips. Flashy is not my main concern! Function is. I don't mind airing up at the end of the trail, but airing up whenever i leave the garage sucks.

Couple guys in our club had those. They liked the idea of them being flush mounted so the valve stem wouldn't get ripped out. Of course, they never had a problem with that and neither have I.

Instead, those things were a pain the but since you needed to use the special adaptor whenever you wanted to air up. And when I was done using my stauns I couldn't let these guys use them for airing down because they only had one adaptor vs. my four stauns deflators.

My recommendation would be to go with the simple rubber valve stem.

Short rubber valve stems should take care of your issues.
I do run the Gorilla valve stems. So far they seem to work well. As stated if you loose the stem for filling up you are hosed. I have not tryed it yet but I think I could make something work with a regular valve stem to replace that part if I lost it.
To air down I just pull the valve core out. Which is the same thing I did with regular rubber stems.

I just carry a few extra stems incase of damage, and forget about it!

If you really are worried about hitting them, then moving the stem is always an option!

You can get the holes welded closed, and drill & tap a hole on the back side of the rim. The thread in tire stems can be found at a local air/hyd. shop. I havent done it, just because I'm lazy, but I have seen afew done, and it seems to work well.
