Largest Tire on a Stock Tire Carrier
What is the largest tire that I can put on a stock tire carrier? I am starting to build my LJ and I'm starting with a 4" ProComp lift, 15x10 M/T Classic II rims, 33x12.5 M/T Baja Claw tires, 6" Bushwackers, Warn bumpers, and Warn 9.5xp winch. Do I need to upgrade my tire carrier to carry 33's?

i had a "33 on there for awhile with no damage, then upgraded to a swingway. you may have to buy an adapter for the stock carrier, i did atleast do to rim size, backspacing, and tire width

You should get an aftermarket tire carrier or carrier/bumper combo to avoid damage to your tailgate. 33s is the biggest I would go on the stock tire carrier. Even then some people have had issues while others have not. I must've been one of the lucky ones b/c I ran with a 33 on the stock carrier for a while.

I ran 33s for several years on the stock carrier with no damage.
Much happier with a swing away, though. |

I have the stock carrier and a 33" spare on my 95 YJ. I drag it once in a while coming down hills. It has trashed my tailgate. I had to climb on the tire and jump on it to get the gate bent half way into shape again.
