Jeeps - What makes them what they are?

Jeep.

What do you guys think of when you hear that? To me the slogans "The Trail Never Ends" or "Have Fun Out There" comes to mind.

At my job I work with kids. Even them, at 5 years old, know that a Jeep is used for offroad. It's just what it does.

I want to know why you guys think Jeeps are amazing? Because they are amazing. If you think otherwise... Shame... and why on JeepForum?

Endless Possibilities. You can do anything to them, whether the majority agrees with what you do or not is solely in your hands... but like someone always says in at least one thread "To each his own."

When I was little and thought of Jeep I'd always think of my grandfather's willy's or a CJ type Jeep. I have to admit that's still what pops into my mind first even though I own an XJ, but to me Jeep in general means a way you can get out and explore nature whether it's in a forest or desert or anywhere between. To me it's almost a certain type of independence where you can go where you want how you want (treading lightly of course) and not having to worry about anything.

Both are very good points I agree with. You can do anything with them. Chances are someone has already has done it. And if not... time for a write-up! And it also is independence from the paved roads. Kinda like the "Ohh man. We can't go out. It's a blizzard." "It's okay guys, I drive a Jeep!"

I guess when I think of Jeep I no longer have to worry about not making it on a 911 call in Blizzard or not making it to work, because of the weather, they are go any where vehicles, last year we got a couple of bad blizzards I was the only one that made it to work that was more than walking distance from work. I live 10 miles from where I work.

I like the fact that I can take my Jeep and go where someone has possibly never been before...Hop out and just listen to how quiet it is..You just can't get further from civilization than you can with a Jeep

What were the two coolest toys ever to young boys in the 80s and 90s... Legos, and Tonka Trucks.

Jeeps are those two things but real size and for grown ups. You can literally build a jeep anyway you want it, and most everything you can buy, simply bolts on. Tonka Trucks in a child's mind are indestructible, and can go through anything. Jeeps, are the toughest things you can buy no question. More often than not, they can go though just about anything. Its all your boyhood imagination sitting in your drive way with a measly 5 digit price tag.

what makes a jeep a jeep?

-constant maintenance
-hood up more than down
-just every one else's parts
-questionable reliability
-unmitigated, irrational love!

Freedom.
I just got my license, I'm still at the dmv, and my dad bought my Jeep when I was 10, and I've taken care of it for 6 years.
