Jeep survival Thread. what to do when in a stuck situation.
Stuck, no winch, nobody to help. What are our options? I already know the log trick. I've also heard about finding dry mud and mixing it in witht he wet mud. So what do you do?

air down further
rock the jeep back and forth and side to side find anything hard to put under the tires put your spare under a tire for more traction

Look around for any type of chicken wire (works well). Use your shovel to dig out your tires.

if you still have carpet on your interior, it will save you in sand, probably help in the mud too. Just lay it in front of tire and let the jeep do the rest.

been there done that.....in my former pickup days. Could not get it out with even a shovel and many hours of work. Called for a wrecker and the wrecker got stuck. Then we left it until the am. In the am it was 95% under the mud. A neighbor called the police. The policed hired an big rig wrecking company and two cranes.
I got a bill for everything! ![]()

you didnt even mention what type of stuck? snow, mud, sand, rocks? There are lots of variables left out. Someone said to airdown more... I agree! go down as low as possible and break out the hi-lift if you've got one.

Sections of rope can be tied around the tires, running it through the spokes of your wheels (similar to snow chains).
Using your jack to lift your Jeep, you can fill in the dug out areas under your wheels with firmer ground (I've done this, it took half a day, but I got unstuck, who says you don't "need" a hi lift?). There's always a way. |

start panicking like a little girl. have your other jeep buddy come tow you out with your cool new strap with a hook at the end of it. rip off the town strap along with your bumper and the hook goes through your window. and meanwhile your partner in crimb also gets stuck in his YJ. accidently drop your cell phone in the water. have your buddy call another friend to come winch you out.
ok not quit like that

I was in this scenario last sunday.
i hit the trail at 6:00 and was just going for a leisurly drive down a dirt road when i saw some nice mud. i threw it in 4X and started running through the mud and got high centered on a rock. I shoveled out the tires (mud was thick and full of roots). I then grabbed my bottle jack and lifted each corner of the jeep while stuffing sticks and logs under each tire. still could not get out. I walked 15Km back into town, at this point it was 1:30 in the morning. called a cab and went home. woke up my roomate, took his truck out there and pulled the jeep out. got home at 2:30 went to bed and got up for work at 5:30. My lesson learned here was: NEVER GO OUT ALONE!!!! |

i got stuck in mud and clay the other day. Didn't think the mud would be that bad so i didn't bring shovel, high lift jack or really anything at all. I basically was camping in my Jeep with sticks sticking out in all directions from under my jeep. Tryed deflating my tires too, no good. Ended up getting mud in my hub caps. At about 1 in the morning, some random dudes on 4wheelers rolled by and towed me out. I didn't even wanna get muddy that day.
