Help with my Jeep

Ok so i bought a 2000 jeep cherokee. When i looked up the VIN it says the vehicle is a 2000 jeep cherokee sport 2.5L , 4 cyl, 5 speed. The problem is; that the jeep is a 4 door, 4.0 v6, automatic. It also does not have a 4WD handle, it is 4x4 but has no 4WD option. Im wondering if the guy who owned it took it out when he swapped the engine..or? Ive also seen that where the fog light switch should be is a door unlock/lock switch. Im so confused i'm not sure what to think .

Sounds like it might have been wrecked bad. And fixed.
You said it is a 4x4 but, it doesn't have the shifter next to the transmission shifter?
Does it have a 4x4 front axle? Or straight pipe axle like a trailer?
2.5 to 4.0 inline 6 is a popular conversion.
And I am confused about the switch .

Yes correct , it does not have the shifter next to the transmission shifter. I am currently ordering another carfax to find out. And it has a 4x4 front axle. And the switch confuses the hell out of me. Im not sure why he would put a door lock/unlock where the fog light switch would be

Ok look under the jeep see if there is a transfer case on the back of the Tranny.
This may be a project that they didn't finish.
Check the doors for vin numbers see if the match the dash.
The switch may be aftermarket locks or there was a bad wire that they just put in a switch to bypass

You said the Vin indicated a 2.5 liter. Make sure that both axles have the same gear ratios.

Put each axle on jack stands, make a mark on the driveshaft, and count the number of turns to get one revolution of the axle. About three DS revs equals, 3.07:1, 3-3/4 equals 3.73:1, just over four equals 4.10:1,and so on. Both axles need to be the same

Junk yard. You could find pretty much all the linkage, brackets, handle, etc. on a donor vehicle.

You'll also need the center console too. Try to take notes and pics before you take the linkages out of donor. It'll help you on install.
Anything we can do we will to help. Where do you live?
