Question for those that have replaced the air outlet with fittings for standard quick disconnect hoses and chucks.

Do you run the compressor when it is not connected to a tire (into a closed air line)? Since the compressor does not have a pressure switch, how much pressure will these small units build? Could it be hard on the compressor or the air lines/fittings?

I'd like to put a standard fitting on my Costco unit, so I can use the same lines as my CO2 tank. But I'd like to get some input on these question first.

The short amount of time I had the compressor on without being connected to a tire flat-out scared me. I just watched the pressure build. I fear it could be enough to blow a hose. You can use standard fittings, but I wouldn't turn it on until it's got something to fill (tire, tank, etc)

I guess you could put a relief valve inline between the housing and the hose. Especially after you do the 1/8" to 1/4" conversion. Dunno what kind of pressure the housing handles, so I don't know how sensitive of a relief valve you'd need.

I picked up the Costco compressor a couple of weeks ago after reading this thread. I used it last weekend to air up after a few days of trails and it worked flawlessly. Thanks for recommending it!

Thanks I'm hoping to add a small tank and valve to it.

For anyone that can't get the little Master-Flow compressor locally, I noticed in my latest JC Whitney catalog that they are now carrying it online. Its $69 but its definitely a great little compressor. Sorry if this was already posted.. but I don't think it has been.

Also... apparently 4wd.com carries them too. This is the same one I got from Pep-boys.. it works great.

I was driving the Hyundai around (Jeep is at the Dealer/another story) and picked one up for myself today at Costco. This happered to work out great because I was on my way to wally world and blew a tire going into the parking lot. I got the spare on quick, but as I lowered it to the ground I found that it was way low on air. So I pulled my new purchase out of the trunk, out of it's box and aired it up. I didn't time it, but it worked fast enough for me. Free replacement of the blow out from Discount tire and were on the road again.

I picked one up also, it jinxed me however, I had a flat today and needed it. $10 rebate at Pepboys. I'm going to dig through this thread again and find a replacement for the guage, nowhere near accurate. But, I'm happy with the compressor. I expected it to sound like a bunch of tin cans strung to the back of a car, but it's smooth and quite. May get another for the family car.2 Thumbs-up.

For a gauge, go over to Autozone and get the Slime 0-60 gauge. It's like $3

But regardless, the reading is not going to be accurate while pumping. You need to stop the compressor to get a pressure reading of the tire. Right?
