Setup and Mounting

Well after testing everything out, I put my Staun deflators and a good gauge in the pouch/pocket and set the whole thing in my action packer. Works like a charm and goes off-location when needed.. Ron

I added the slime gauge, it was small enough and fit in there. I also (finally) got those alligator clips cut off and some ring terminals added...

Now I just need to get it off the tray, mounted to the tray bracket, and figure out how to provide as much protection from the elements as I can...

Theres a lot of useful little tips in this thread so I thought I'd share too..

I wanted to convert to standard quick disconnects to use the rest of my normal air hoses, but I didnt want to make an adapter to hook them up to a male fitting. So I took apart one of the female quick disconnects and drilled a 7/64" hole through the brass check-valve piece.

Now the fitting won't restrict flow but otherwise work normally.

Now when my "friend" accidentally flips the switch with nothing connected, things don't start breaking.. The gauge just bounces around from 0-10psi.

If your air line has a closed end, you will still pressurize the line obviously.. unless you mod the check-valve in the chuck to be always open as well. I also thought about adding a pop-off valve as extra protection but havent done it yet. It could be connected with a T fitting with the gauge and probably be out of the way.

does anyone have measurements of the costco unit? height, width and length, complete detailed measurments would be nice too, like height of main body, over all height, length of body and length of upper "head" and all that stuff

im wanting to see if it will fit here http://www.jeeps4ever.com/Jeepin_Rock_Climber/storagebox/Jeep%20TJ%20Storage%20Solution.htm

I bought my costco unit last weekend. First time using it today and it dies. At first I thought it was just the heat sensor, as it was on my fourth tire. However, after giving it time to cool it wouldn't click back on. My buddy had his though so we got my fourth one back up. I'm gonna pull one side off and check the switch, if there is no visible issue that I can quickly fix it's going back to costco.

Sorry to hear that... see if you can figure out what it was so we can all be aware of any potential issues. The good news is that Costco will take it back no questions asked!!!

I found it. Something for you guys to keep note of:

The wire just popped right off. I will fix that here in a few. However just note that if your compressor will not come back, to check inside where the switch & relay are housed.

Sweet. Good to know.

I just got back from a trail run earlier today. I aired back up all four of my tires then four more of my buddy's tires without stopping. The compressor got pretty darn hot, but never stopped!

I am pleased with this thing. For about $50, it could crap out in a year and I would feel like I got my use out of it.

i just got my costco compressor and took it apart to hard wire it into my jeep and this is what i found, half inch of BARE EXPOSED wire, and the other wire had 1" long strands sticking out that were the positive end, had i plugged it in i would have fried the compressor almost immediately.

So this pump is good to air up tires but has anyone hard wired this to a switch and air gauge on the dash and plumbed it to a on board air tank and tried using air tools a little at a time?

I am thinking about making the pump central and plum air lines out the front and back of the Jeep for attachment of an air hose. I have an old compressor air tank I will be mounting also. I can plum this like a A/C comp OBA system, has anyone else done this?

Longevity Report:

I've been running the little red compressor (MV50 type) for about 18 months now. It's been very reliable and dependable with the only problems being a couple blown fuses that were easily replaced.

While I've wanted to set up an on-board air system for a while, this 2.5cfm compressor definitely keeps pushing that back and adds to my procrastination.

Good little compressor.

Same here too.. I originally planned on installing if, but some "professional" compressor folks said 'it won't stand up to that type of service". I ended up just putting my staun's and a good gauge in the pouch and keeping the case in my action packer. That was about a year or 18 months ago and honestly, I like it just fine the way it is.
