getting rid of golden trim

How can i get rid of the "luxurious" golden trim and knobs of this CB... http://www.rangerusa.com/tr-127gk.html

what kind of paint can i use? should i sand it.. use primer?? will it hold?? !!HELP PLS!!!

On my chomed light i sanded them and sprayed it with rustolenum paint...works well and its been about 6 months

It can be done but looks like a tedious and annoying job. Why not pick another cb?

...it was a gift from my father in law ... don't want to offend him
...it's seems like a good cb .. won't sell it because i don't think someone will give me what is worth

you might be able to "Buff" it off with a Dremel tool and a felt wheel, but im not sure what they would look like under the gold. be carful of painting directly to the gold, the gold coating will start to chip off in a couple of years but paint will chip off the gold much sooner. I have never seen good quality gold paint that would hold up to an application like a knob.
