Floor jack VS bottle jack for tire change

I had a blowout this week and called AAA. The guy rolls up with a small floor jack and a Snap-On battery powered impact wrench and went to work!

I want to carry a jack other than the OE jack. Would a bottle jack do the job, or do I need a small floor jack?

Thanks all.

a floor jack is exactly that. Something that can be rolled around in a shop. For driving purposes, get a bottle jack. I saw in a mag one time, they welded a curved piece to it to better match the round axle

You could carry another one, but the OE jack will be fine for up to around 35" tires. Just make sure you are lifting from closer to the wheel and not under the differential and you will have plenty of room to change the tire. For my TJ, I wouldn't sacrifice the little space available to carry around a floor jack.

I love having a floor jack at home. It is the way to go.

For on the road though, no way. I'd use the OEM jack, a bottle jack, or a high-lift, in that order.

i pulled over on the freeway the other day for a libby that was pulled over, the womans tire blew out, i just busted out my factory bottle jack, and i didnt even have a thought that the botle jack wouldnt be up to the task.... the stock jack is fine.

however.... if you can, a floor jack is better, but i dont feel like carrying one everywhere i go.
