class A is for your upholstry fires, class B is for your chemical fires and class C is for electrical fires.

I have an ABC fire extinguisher, the biggest complaint about these is the intense amount of cleaning you have to do afterwards because the part that puts out upholstry fires will corrode your electrical connections, but I am willing to clean everything with a toothbrush as long as I can save it from a firey doom.

"A" is combustables like wood, cloth, plastic
"B" is liquids like gasoline or oil
"C" is electrical
I was asking this because I was thinking about getting a retired one from work, DOT has set lifespans for them. They are 40# dry chemical A-B-C. I know they work very well and are easily recharged. It "might" be a little over kill but, it can put out diesel spraying out of a "broken" valve at a rate of 15 gallons a minute.

And yes I have used them, boy are they heavy.

I will probaly get a 10# since it is lighter.

I pack around 2 #10ABC and a smaller #5ABC that is attatched to the drivers seat. 3 total for me.

I'd never wheel without at least a 5 lb. ABC extinguisher. Smaller than that just aren't enough.
