Fire Extinguisher

Can anyone tell me if there is a certain type of fire extinguisher I should get for my Jeep for off-roading? Will a small Home Depot 15.00 one work?

Also, I've seen people mount them on roll bars, any idea how that's done?

Thanks,

Jon

I got the small ABC class ones...from Walmart...

A = ordinary combustibles
B = flammable liquids
C = electrical equipment

(info from: http://www.hanford.gov/fire/safety/extingrs.htm)

my fear with the rollbar mounted ones is how it could become a projectile in a crash...some people mount them with hose clamps, some with velcro, and some with holders specifically made for that application (I've seen them on Ebay)...

I mounted mine on the floor...one next to each front seat...

Thanks, I'll pick one up and try to figure out where I'm going to mount it.

I'm getting close to getting off road:

1. Got winch, needs install
2. Getting extinguisher
3. Getting CB tomorrow
4. Getting Hi-Lift tomorrow

I know I most likely won't need all of this but I'd feel better.

Thanks again.

I've come to understand that BC ones are the best because after a fire, you'll be able to remove the remains of the retardent. O and here's a pic of a young las' to help you get a visual. What ever that visual is, is up to you....

I say buy the biggest one you have room for. I have a 20 lb. mounted on the pass. rear fender, next to the rear seat. I've seen all to often when the little "Cute" ones are just not enough. I deal with fires every day and theirs nothing worse than to watch your vehicle burn.

I got the ABC style and used velcro staps to mount it at the bottom of the roll bar.

I second this. After a fire safety training course and finding out how few seconds of retardant you have I went out and bought the biggest extinguisher I could fit. Those cute chrome ones won't put out a waste basket fire.
