dana 60 high steer arms renforcement

i figure i would post up on how i solved my problem of the top king pin bolts loosen on my dana 60 high steer arms. after every run out the arms would be very looes and it was only a matter of time before i stripped one or worse sheer the bolts off and this kept me from going full hydro. so i took a piece of 3/8 T-1 welded it to a piece of 1.5'' 1/4 thick T-1. the 1/4'' steel had the holes drilled to match the high steer arms. i then bolted the wedge ( made out of the 3/8 and 1/4'' ) and welded it to the OEM ford knuckle, witch has the thinest of the big three dana 60's.

now after alot of hard runs out the king pin bolts are not even out of tourqe, so they have'nt even budged. i also have no fear runing full hydro now and the knuckles should be the last thing to break. heres some pictures, jason.

Looks like a good way to gain some strength

Question: are you using just regular grade 8 bolts to attach your high steer arm?

yes, but posion spider sent grade 5 when they sent the arms out. they wanted me to use them, becasue they figured they would rather see the bolts sheer rather than the knuckle breaking. so far they haven't loosened up, jason.

Studs with conical washers and nuts... been running them for 3 years without breakage or loosening.. 42" TSLs, full hydro, and no regard for driveline abuse.

Edit: Oh.. and that is a nice fix and welding!!

ya i know, but i got the thinner knuckles of the three, you got chevys witch are nice and thick. thanks for the complament i didn't know how the T-1 would weld to the knuckle with my MM250 but its holding up very well so far. i was out yesterday and still no loosening of the bolts. i just came back up from the garge, i started mocking up the steering valve with all the fittings. i have a double ended CYL and a single, i realy want to use the double for my next buggy, but i like the feel of the way they steer. what are you using single or double, jason.
