clean sand from A/C vents

i have tons of sand in my a/c vents and when ever i turn them on, well, it shoots out, and can never keep my leather seats clean because of it, especially the passenger side. any way to clean it up....am i going to have to take the dash apart, or would is it coming from the engine bay?
