Champion Winch Rebuild
Mods: Not quite sure where this thread fits feel free to move.

So I found a Champion Winch on Craigslist for a decent price. $175 Probably could haggle down to $125 $150. There is a problem with the motor so probably needs to be replaced but I won't know until I tear it apart(if i get it).

I checked ebay new motors go for around $100 to $150. But those wern't for the champion winch.

Here are the questions

Has anybody here rebuilt their winch?
I'm not afraid to tear stuff apart but is it worth it?

How good are champion winches?
If a new one is only $300 I'd get a new one.

The winch is only rated at 7500 lbs. That shouldn't be a problem right?
I know 8000 lbs is usually recomended but will 500 lbs really make a difference?

Can I use a different brand motor for this winch.

Any comments appreciated thanks.

Give it some time. It's one been a few hours. In the mean time check out the Warn M8000 rebuild Louie4 did. I'm betting it will be similar.

Don't bother. a new one, even north of the boarder, is $350. I blew mine up and used the parts to get an old Braden winch going. the windings of mine bit the dust. a motor rewind shop can repair them but it'll cost more than it's worth.

The time now is 10:47 AM.
