In-Cab controls for a Smittybilt XRC8?
I just relocated my solenoid ("black box") to underhood with the remote plug-in in the fender flare but I am unsure how to get my in-cab's hooked up.
The remote has 3 pins but it has 4 wires - the shield being number 4. I yanked this picture from Big-N-Broke-YJ's thread on the XRC8 to give you a bit more info; ![]() The winch controls are Black/Green/Brown/White ![]() I have a power switch (rocker on/off) and the momentary rocker (push on/off/push on) ready to go in the cab - I just need to get the wires from A to B. Any input would be helpful - where do I make my connections?

You were able to use a 3 wire control set for a Smittybilt?

Mine is Warn, 5 wire I believe. The ad says it fits the older 3 wire models too. Give them a call, they were helpful when I talked to them.

I installed the roadless gear in cab control. The kit comes with 3 wires but I only had to use 2 of the wires on the Smittybilt winch
Has anyonr noticed that the connectors on the roadless grear plug are too wide to fit in the spots where the connection is made? [IMG] [/IMG]I didnt have a drill bit to predrill the plastic and ended up cracking the corners ![]() Heres the winch on the new Smittybilt bumper [IMG] [/IMG]

Anyone have a diagram for the 3 wire remote winch control circuit like the Smittybilt uses?

white is power, brown is ground, I didn't have time tonight to figure out which wire was in and which was out. If I don't go wheeling this weekend I'll figure out the other two. I removed my selenoid from the box, connected the plug into my grill. Selenoid is mounted on the drivers side bolted to the fender by the washer fluid in a tupperware bowl. Hey I wanted it water proof.

O.K. if white is power and brown is ground, then I would just have a switch that puts white to green or black for in or out correct?

I made a nice in cab system for that winch, it isn't hard to figure out.
Green is in and Black is out. Leave the Brown alone. How you handle the white depends on your intended use. If you want to be able to just plug in the factory remote and go, leave it alone. Grab a source of 12V for the in-dash on/off switch from somewhere inside. The output of the on/off switch will only power the input of your on/off/on rocker. If you want the winch to only operate when the dash switch is armed, disconnect the white wire from the solenoid terminal (shown above), cut off the ring terminal, and jumper that to the output of your in-dash on/off switch as well. Either way, a wire needs to be connected from your "in" position on your dash on/off/on switch to the same terminal as the green wire in the picture. Your "out" position should therefore connect to the screw terminal on the solenoid that carries the black wire (on the left in the photo). Clear as mud? CHEAP TRICK: use an old three prong extension cord for your dash to solenoid wiring. It just happens to contain a set of three flexible copper braided 14 gauge wires in white, green, and black perfect for what you are doing. You can leave the outer sheathing on for durability, or carefully strip it off for a more finished look.

That is what I wanted to hear, just to make sure. I was going to run 12v+ to a rocker then out of that rocker into my 3 pos (on-off-on) momentary and then 2 leads (in & out) out of my momentary to the box.
Nice on the cheap trick - I already have a computer power cable which I love to use, 3 wire and black. I have stacks of them just for that purpose.

Quote:
If you aren't going to disarm the factory winch plug from the dash switch, you could just wire the three position switch input directly to 12V and eliminate the on/off rocker. The disadvantage to that of course is if the on/off/on was bumped accidentally it would engage the winch.

You are correct - it worked perfectly. I ran power to the rocker and then into the on-off-on momentary then from there one to the green and one to the black on the "black box" and it worked on first test.
I still have to make labels, however far left is on/off rocker, middle is the momentary - top in, bottom out and the last switch is for aux lights. ![]() This has to be one of the easiest vehicles I have ever owned to fish wire back & forth, huge openings, empty plugs on the firewall - its electrical nirvana!

I used some rub on letters for my labeling. Cost is a couple bucks.
I think the way to go is one of those Dymo label makers that print on tape like stuff. All these are labeled with rub on's. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I think my wife (scrapbooker extraordinarre) has a stash of rub ons that would probably be perfect - thanks for the tip.
