On Board Shower

Hi!

Anyone know any existing kits for on board shower? I read a lot about the R & M kit but it looks like they don't make it anymore.

Is it fabrication time? i've located plans, but i was hoping to buy one because I've a trip planned that leaves before I'd have a chance to cook one up.

Riding in a 97 TJ.

The Zodi line of hot water heaters shown on that very cool link given by jarbridge09 work well.

if you have hot water why do you need to heat it? not sure why people call them hot water heaters. they are water heaters.

you know you can build your own pretty cheap. a 10 or 15 gal tank with a 12v pump and one of the ultra low flow shower heads and mis plumbing supplies is all you need. pant the tank black and as long as its in the sun it will get hot enough for a shower. another option is one of the solar showers from a camping store.

Go on Ebay and piece together what you need. We did this on my friends TJ this summer for a camp shower. Get a Liquid to liquid heat exchanger, a 12 volt marine wash down pump or similar, a cheap hand held shower shower head from the local bix box, and a 15-20ft of heater hose. Put it all together and viola, hot water shower.

Make sure you get a large heat exchanger, the larger the better, plumb it on the outlet side of the heater core so that you can adjust the temperature of the water with the heater motor in the jeep.

Start with an exchanger similar to this. 30 Plate Brazed Water Outdoor Heat Exchanger - eBay (item 230487423221 end time Aug-12-10 12:47:50 PDT)

Using a pump similar to this. WASHDOWN PUMP 3.5 GPM FRESH OR SALT WATER SELF PRIMING: eBay Motors (item 290384180687 end time Aug-19-10 16:20:48 PDT)

Those are the expensive parts. After that everything can be had locally. Hoses, fitings, etc. just piece it together and enjoy your shower.

Yea these are cool and I have been thing about making one of these for my winter project. There are a lot of web sites that show how to make them using a piece of 3" copper with 3/8" copper tubing coiling inside making the heat exchanger. Otherwise I just need a few fittings to get it to work

I can quit drinking anytime I want, but hey I'm no quitter :)

I seem to recall a thread floating around on a board several years ago, thinking it was Pirate, about making a DIY OBS set up. there was tons of discussion on different heat exchange methods and such and as i recall some really creative ideas. Unfortunately I don't see it in my bookmarks at the moment, but google might help bring it up.
