Best 8-10,000 winches

Okay, I know everybody is going to chime in about their Warns. I KNOW they are good.

What I'm looking for is some direct experiences with winches in the 8-10,000 lb range.

Warn - xd9000i, x8000i, and the m8000
what is the difference between the x8000i and m8000? Is one design better?

MileMarker - e8000, e9000, se9500

Ramsey - ?? not sure of models here

T-Max - EW-10000, EW-9000, and their new integrated series

Tabor - Made by Warn, what are the opinions on the Warn-made stuff (other than the warranty)? Are these good winches?

I'm trying to find something UNDER 800.00 (preferably lower), but have a good quality winch.

I know about the 8274's and 9.5 XP and ti's, but they are out of my price range. Yes I could wait, but I have other things to do with that money as well.

What specs should I look for?
What values for those specs are considered good?

I want to make the best informed decision I can make, but don't want to break the bank doing so.

For the T-maxx, you looking one of the new integrated units? Which model? Why are you considering that? I'm not questioning your choice, but wondering what about T-maxx has you seriously considering it?

Just trying to get different perspectives.

This is the one I got from Mike. Less than 24 hours later it was at my door with the winch plate I also ordered!
The M8000 and the X8000 are the same except the solinoids (sp) are not intergaded on the M8000. The X8000 is not being made by Warn anymore. There are a few new ones still out there. I took a look at Warns website and compared the various winches. I choose the M8000 for a number of reasons.
If you look at the line speeds between the M8000,Xd9000I,XP9500. The M8000 has about the same line speeds at all the various loads. The no load speed is a bit faster. At a full 8K pound load it is over 8 FPM. Not to shabby IMO.
Also price was important. The M8000 is alot of bang for the buck.
Plus my buddy had a roller fairlead that he gave to me. I plan on swapping out the cable later on for the synthetic rope and the drum will hold 100Ft of 5/16 or 80 Ft of 3/8.
If you don't like the looks of the box on top you can order a bracket from Warn to mount it on top of the winch motor. Or you can get some longer cables and mount it in the motor compartment. It would have a very low profile then.
The HS9500 is a very nice winch. The no load speed is over 60 Ft per minute. But if you look at the line speed under load it is about the same as the M8000. If I had the money that is the one I would have gone with but, I feel the M8000 will be just fine!

The Ramsey is a good choice. A few of my wheelin buddies use the 8.5 all the way to the Patriot series.....last trip they worked overtime in the snow...

My 8.5 is on the way.

I've been using the same Ramsey since 97. I've worked it hard enough to wear out 3 winches. I'm not being brand loyal, Warns are good also.

I bought a Warn M8000 from 4wd hardware for just over $600. I didn't have any trouble mounting it either.

The 'i' in the Warn series are the models with an integrated solenoid on the winch casing... the M8000 for instance doesn't have it integrated and you end up with that big black box in the middle of your grill. Just aesthetically displeasing IMO...

If you want to keep it under $800, try here... http://winchdepot.com/winchDetail.asp?partNumber=27550

Free shipping and rear receiving shackle too!

My Warn 9.5ti was $868 delivered with the free hitch shackle from winchdepot.com. I've used the winch already and couldn't be more pleased.

I bought my Warn/Magnum 9k (same thing as Tabor 9k) for $499 shipped from quadratec. I think its been used about 10 or 12 times over then past 3 months since i've had it and it hasn't given me any problems. I think plenty of people in my group i wheel with will vouch for it
