axle help

First of all, this might not be "hard core" enough for here but I really want some help from the people with experience. Right now I'm putting off getting a tow rig/dd due to the fact I wont be on the highway and will have a short commute to work (5-10km). If I do need to go on the highway for long trips or my jeep breaks I will have my girlfriends liberty to drive since she will be doing a correspondence course.

To the tech, so I want to get some axles under my jeep but I am on a tight budget. I want to start getting stuff together now so I can get them on around May. That being said I don't have a lot of experience working with axles. I want a dana 60 or 14b rear and dana 60 (maybe 44) front. Looking to run full width as well.

I found a d60 on a local forum and was thinking about picking it up but have no idea what it needs work wise or cost wise to get it set up. Not sure where to even start with the front. I am only planning on running 2.5" lift as well. Might do short arms for now and convert to the long arms after the summer for my next project. I want to run 37-38s right now, and possibly step it up a bit in the future to 40-42s. Also have the 4 banger right now so not sure what gears to go with either. 5:13s?

Heres the info on the 60
4.56, bored out for 35 spline shafts, set-up for double triangulated 4-link, disc brakes. Spiders right now are 31 spline and lincolned. Gonna need new spiders to weld or probably a locker. Got 35 spline shafts that are too long so you get them cut and splined or buy some beefy ones. Gonna need some caliper brackets, calipers, pads, etc.

$300

300.00 sounds like a good deal for that 60 rear. the spindles all ready have been bored and there 4.56's. the axle started life as a 30 spline ( not 31 ) and has welded spider gears, junk all that and get a full spool. you cant beet a spooled rear for an offroad rig.
front is the tuff one, the best ford 60 to use is the 78/79. why because the 78/79 has the longest short side tube to fabricate the coil buckets on. they are getting very rare due to the fact that they also bolt into a YJ OEM spring pearchs. expect to pay top dollar for one, unless you find one that the guy doesn'y know there value. the 85 and up ford dana 60's will work but there tight to fit a coil bucket on. bolth axles will be 69.5'' wms to wms. clayton kits are kinda based on the 78/79 dana 60's and the later 85 and up ones i dont think they will fit onto that axle without mods to the kit.

start here, all the info you need on the 60 front, jason.

IIRC if you go with the 78/79 F250 and later year F250 and up you get leaf spring mount instead of coils...

after 79 ( starting in 1980 ) ford didn't use the dana 60 in the F-250's or the F-350's till 86. then insteed of a 31.5'' spring pearch like the 78/79 they where 36'' apart. it wasn't till the newer 03's and up F-250's when they went back to the 60 with the coils mounts. before that F-250's used the TTB dana 50 and the F-350's 1980 till 86 ( actually late 85 ) used the TTB 50 to, jason.
