Does anyone have any experience with Recon winches? I just found this winch online & it looks very good for the price. I know it's an imported winch but so is everything else in the $400 range.
I wonder if its any coincidence that the Vortex 10000 winch & pro mark 10000 looks exactly like the Recon 10500 winch except one is black and one is silver?
I posted up a while back and the winch is still doing fine! I expected it to need some parts already because it was a spur of the moment buy but haven't had one snag with it since I bought it. I would recommend buying a better sleeve for the synthetic line though. I had to run my winch line over rocks onece and the sleeve that came with it didn't give me any piece of mind. I'll be sure to report back if I have any problems.
Thanks, I picked one up too. only used it a few times last saturday. But I found the thickest slopiest mud hole around and dove right in! Had no trouble pulling me right out.:2thumbsup:
Update on winch. I have used ALOT! Not been easy on it either. I did have one small mechanical problem with it. The trouble did not stop the unit from winching but made freespooling the the line out hard to impossible. I disassembled the unit and figured out what was wrong. the distributor I purchased the winch gave me the choice of returning the winch for repair or they would send me the parts. I chose to have them send me the parts. Winch is very easy to work on and now its back together and good as new. I would recommend looking at Truck and winch.com for a purchase. I would buy another one of these in a heartbeat. Built like a tank inside and like I said I have not been easy on it. Bet I got way over a 100 pulls on it, easy. Pulled a 2500HD out of a mud pit where he was burried up to his headlights. Took doubling up the line with a snatch block and 3 more Jeeps strapped to my rear bumper for weight but I got him out. Buy one you won't be disappointed!
Mine is still going strong, as I stated above, had a small issue with it but the vendor went out of their way to get me all the parts I needed to get it 100% again.
I as well have had zero problems with mine. Have made some really hard pulls back to back pulling out a few cherokees without a ounce of trouble from the winch
Are you refering to me, Jerry? I've had it since July, but really worked it hard, probably to the extent some may say abusive. but it has really been great. I am now trying to use snatch blocks and such to lighten the load whenever possible. I'd recommend this unit, especially for the price.
What more do ya want? Mine is still pulling strong and still had no problems whatsoever. I spent about an hour of straight pulling getting multiple friends out of the ice/ mud the other day one of witch was a 84 suburban on 39.5 IROKS and the winch didn't even hesitate.
Buddy of mine just bought one.
Installed it on his Jeep. Winch was DOA when he went to try it.
He was completely un-impressed with the service reps at Recon.
He decided to send it back for a refund.
Thats too bad! did he buy it directly from Recon? I got mine through truck and winch and they went out of their way to make sure I got taken care of with the problem I had with mine. Its really been a great winch for me. Worked it hard for sure.
I've had this winch for about a year now with absolutely no problems. I bought it from Truckandwinch.com and since they are close to me i walked in and picked it up, since i paid cash they didn't even charge me sales tax. This is my first winch so i don't have anything to compare it to but i would recommend it. After i bought it, two more people in my jeep club have purchased it as well and haven't had any problems. My winch cover blew off while driving on the freeway so the synthetic rope is a lil faded in some areas. This winch def saved my butt on many occasions. I wrote a review on it in the products review page. Here are two pics from when I almost lost my jeep in a mudslide.
I'm buying a winch in a the Spring. Sounds like TruckAndWinch.com is where to buy the Recon from.
Anyone had experience dealing with Recon directly ... they're showing a limited lifetime warranty on their website ... so, would have to go thru them when the T&W 3-year warranty runs out. Not sure what "limited" means to Recon ... guess I'll have to call them.
I have abused mine pretty good and its never let me down, I would buy another one as well! I may just do that this spring. I will be puting in a new pair of axles and I am contiplating a fuel cell so I can tuck a winch up where the tank is now for rear pulls.
I'm still running mine after about a year and a half now, I use it pretty regularly with no problems. I used it pulling some trees out of a trail, about 4 hours of hard winching and it didn't hesitate once. For the price it's a great deal and is comparable to the top of the line winches plus this has synthetic rope. Not sure about the warranty so calling them directly beforehand would def be the way to go. Hope this helped.
Bump, bump. Been four or five years now, how's the Recons holding up?
