Adventure Trailers anyone?
Do any of you have experience with ADVENTURE TRAILERS' "Horizon"?
http://www.adventuretrailers.com/Horizon/Horizon_Features/HorizonFeatures.html This thing looks really fun for our camping trips. Just wanted to see if there were any opinions here. Thanks!

They look like great little trailers, but for the cost, it seems like you should get more. They remind me a lot of the Tentrax trailers, but look a lot more durable than the Tentrax. But for $7-10k...ouch.
However, behind a TJ or similar sized vehicle, it wouldn't be much weight, plus you are still able to get to some difficult places that other vehicles can't get to, so that's another plus. If I had the money, I'd definately get one.

Yeah the cost was a bit steep for me as well - but, made in the USA so I'd be inclined to give them the business.
Just after I posted this I found the Tentrax trailers you mentioned. I'm surprised there aren't more trailers offered in this size (or maybe I'm having trouble looking in the right place).

It has "the look" but it costs way too much for what you get.
You can pick up a used 8' tent trailer in good shape for a grand or less. A quick spring over and some bigger tires and you have a reasonably off road capable camping machine without the hefty price tag.

Have you looked at a Military M416 1/4 Ton Trailer made for Jeeps/Mutts.
For the cost of the ADVENTURE TRAILERS, you could buy the M416 Trailer, Safari Tent, etc. and make your own for a lot less $$$'s.

I've got a JumpingJack trailer and love it. If you want to haul an ATV or two into the back country, it's great.

Have any of you posting in this thread actually looked at one....pulled open the storage drawers, got under it, got in it, looked at the wiring, noticed the roller ball bearing drawer slides, etc.? Just wondering?

That jumping jack trailer looks cool. How much did it run you and with what options. I saw the adventure trailer at the last pomona show and it looked real nice. Even 7000.00 worth of nice but that said I would rather get something cheaper and spend the money else where.

That jumpin jack thing looks pretty cool, but I'd like to be able to store stuff and pop out the tent at the same time, not one or the other. It seems as though you could fold up the tent, pack stuff on top of it. What do you do when you get to camp? Unload everything from the trailer, set up the tent, and then load everything inside? For that alone I think it makes the adventure trailer better. Plus, Adventure trailer's old location in Colton, CA was only 10 minutes from the house I grew up in (and still go visit my mom in all the time)! Their new location in Upland is a little farther, but still close enough! Makes me like them better since it's locals! at the expo: ![]() at odf4: ![]() |

Well, let's break this down and see what happens...
The boxes on the sides around - $400 each? (max) (total of $800) The tongue box on the front no more then - $200 (I've looked at a million of these for my old motorcycle trailer) Water tank and pump - <$100 Axle/Wheels/Tires - $700 (Axle $250 (3500lb idler from here) - Wheels $75 - Tires $350 Frame parts $300 (metal only and I'm totally guessing on this one) Propane tank and mount $40 - if you can build the trailer then you can build the mount for cheap. Camper $1500-$1800 (Wow - didn't know those were that expensive! - maybe you can't build one for much cheaper but I'll keep going because I'm bored) Trailer coupler - $180 (from their website) Landing gear - $50 Dual Jerry cans and bracket = $100 (again you can make the bracket with relative ease if you're building this trailer) Grill and included shelving - $200 (completely guessing here) Misc. wiring for lights and brakes (if you go with electric brakes) $100 Misc. because I can guarantee you I forgot something! $1000 Now that big 'ol box in the middle I have no idea about so I'm guessing again but we'll say $1000 All right let's put this all together now... $800 - Side boxes $200 - Tongue box $100 - Water tank and pump $700 - Axles/Wheels/Tires $300 - Frame parts $40 - Propane tank and mount $1650 - Camper $180 - Trailer coupler $50 - Landing Gear $100 - Dual Jerry cans and bracket $200 - Grill and shelving $100 - Wiring $1000 - Misc. $1000 - Big box in middle $6420 - Hmmppphhh, not a bad deal after all! Of course I added a bunch of padding but only in a couple of spots, $1000 misc. and $100 for wiring to be exact, and I have no idea about the box in the middle, but either way that stuff adds up real quick! Of course it would be cool to buy one and I'm sure you could do something similar for a lot less! P.s. - Now here's an awesome offroad trailer! It wouldn't go the same places the adventure trailer will go but it's still pretty cool. |

Thanks for the alternative links. Why is it the Australians have more cool trailers?
As to the ADVENTURE TRAILER, it is definately a pretty big price tag, but as pointed out by anebrich you're really getting a lot of stuff there.

You could probably build one pretty easy. Get their hitch or make one yourself. You could possibly use a U joint. Not sure how it would handle the stress but it could probably be done. or make something like a U joint.

Trailer
www.film.queensu.ca/cj3b/hubbardtrailers/bantam.htmlI have Bantam trailer that works great as a utillity trailer behind my jeep and I would believe that they platformed the adventure trailer on on of these. You can find them on e-bay once in a while. If you were closer I would sell you mine and you would have a great start. the Bantams were built to be towed behind jeeps anyways originaly
