96 Jeep Wrangler

...if they'd made one, what would it have been like?

Blah...I know this...the idea of this thread is to "fantasize" what Jeep could have made...

For instance my 96 Jeep would come lifted with 37s and dana 60s and a straight 8 with around 350 to 400 ft-lbs of torque.....something like that!

= )

Why a straight 8? It is easy to make that much torque with a small block V. The nose would be very long to fit a straight in there.

That makes no sense. Why would jeep go all crazy and build a ball-to-the-wall jeep for no reason.

In all reality, if they built a "96" it would either be a YJ with some fancy sticker package (manuf. often come up with special "packages" at the end of a model run to stimulate sales of those last units), or the exact same thing as a 97 TJ.

I have heard the reason they made no actual "96" wranglers was because the current YJ in production didn't meet federal safety/emission laws that were to be in place for the 96 model year. However, they weren't ready to start production on the TJs just yet. So, like 95yj_bstick, they just kept on making "95" model jeeps for another yet. Now how true that is I don't know, but it sure sounds feaseable.
