4 door JK's...really a Jeep?
Ok, so I'm from PA, about an hour outside of Philly near Reading or Lancaster. Out here I've noticed alot of Jeepers who really hate the four door JK's, saying that they are not really a Jeep, that it's trying to be a Hummer and is for the yuppies. They don't wave to them, unless you consider the "one-finger" a wave. Yes they flip them off if they try to wave to them. They also say that the name says it all since "jk" means "joking" in texting. I'm a TJ guy but don't have much of an opinion about this, though I do have as of yet to see a four door JK with anything but the factory pieces.
So is this a nationwide consensus or something that is just local to me?

People also said "YJ" stood for "yuppie Jeep" when they came out and that TJs weren't real Jeeps because they have coils instead leafs...

Jeeeezus....does that mean I'm a 61yr. old yuppie, who also happens to be a gun loving ultra conservative. Wow, wait until I tell all of my friends about my new found identity. I just know they'll be impressed.

Cmon now, its not like there's anyone driving a YJ or a TJ who never puts the top down or takes the doors off.

I have no problem with the vehicle itself, however, in my area they are all owned by people that could not afford a Hummer and 22" spinners. I use to try waving but gave up and now ignore them.
I will wave when I see one on the trail or near a trail covered in Mud. The 4 door JK is just another Soccer Mom SUV.

Jeep is making a huge mistake trying to build hummers and Suburbans.
Ford ruined the T-bird by making it bigger, they ruined the Mustang for many years by making it bigger now jeep has copied them and ruined a successful formula by making the "Jeeps" wider and longer. Let the family people have Cherokees and Waggoneers... Mr Ferrari allegedly called Jeep "the only American sports car", that is no longer true (sports cars have only 2 seats, if it has more its not a sports car). If I get another Jeep It will have to be a TJ since the larger products being sold now are too big and are really the death knell of an icon. I don't wave at them, they ignore me and I ignore them, they are just another SUV driven to get groceries. If I were to see one prepped for the trail I would wave. If I see one set up as a Hummer I shake my head and think "more spare parts". Enjoy!

Go STEELERS!!!!

Remember that Jeep has to sell enough total units to remain a viable company. Every Liberty, 2WD Grand and those SRT8s sold helps ensure they build the ones we really want.
Having said that, the stock JK is one really capable off raod vehicle. With minor upgrades it beats the heck out of a TJ or YJ off-road. Now the fact that many folks buying them will never use it to its capability is not the Jeeps fault. |

Larger vehicles often have advantages off road (untill the trees customize the sheet metal).
For tight twisty trails the original size Jeeps (flatties or close to it) are best, bigger, especially wider, is not for me. Enjoy!

haha I love all the hate towards them. Yeah so, some JK owners do buy their $30k + jeep and dont want to scratch it up or flip it over right away. Maybe they are new to the sport, this is their first Jeep so what you see as whinny people are really people who just dont know yet and are very cautious to damage the vehicle that takes them to work. Buying parts to replace on a broken JK is not cheap right now so a lot of people try to avoid breaking something. I see plenty of TJ's around here that are clean, no scratches, stock/modified, doesnt matter and they think I am crazy to take my JK off road.
O and the Jeep wave thing I hear about, not everyone knows about it. Its not like when you buy a Jeep the sales guy shows you how to put it in 4wd, put the top and do the Jeep wave... I had no clue for a month before my neighbor told me about it when I had my 2 door JK. Well for what its worth, here is my 2 week old Rubicon, still got the temp. dealer tags and when I got done with the trip I put the half doors back on turned on the AC because I get an avg of 2.5 mpg better on the highway with the jeep closed up and then, I went to the grocery store. I put some pictures of other JK's i wheel with. Some of them do more extreme stuff but these are the only pictures I really have and you can only put 10 pictures per post and i dont wish to make a lot of post on this. ![]() My friends JK, on 37's. ![]() ![]() Another JK i wheel with. 2.5" of lift and 35's ![]() ![]() And another: ![]() 1 more: ![]() 1 more: ![]() Even a stock Sahara: ![]() |
