~Wheeling Lawrence Welk Sunday Sept. 26~

AKA: old abandoned airport or LW trail.

It's off the 15 just north of Escondido across from the Lawrence Welk Resort.

Wunnerful-a wunnerfull.....
So slide your accordion music CD into the player in your Jeep and meet us there or for breakfast before it.

Those down San Diego way are going to meet in Escondido for breakfast at (TBA)

Those coming from the north will be meeting for breakfast at Denny's on Murrieta Hot Springs Road at Madison (across street from WalMart) at 7:30.

We will meet at the trail as close to 9am as possible. We'll air down and wait a bit, so hurry.

Chime in if you want to make the run. No big rocks but some steep hills and some pretty fun challenges.
No lift required but it helps. Stockers "could" make it. If not, many of us have winches.

There's no gravel. After they graded the road a street sweeper went through and cleaned that up. They planted some nice tall-fescue grass on it so you don't get your tires dirty.
They also piped in the Lawerence Welk Orchestra music along the trail. Coctails are served at the end of the trail at the country club.

I'd better go prep my Jeep for the big day tomorrow. I need to polish the chandelier.

I have to cancel! Damn it!

1 personal reason, 1 mechanical reason, and one injury.
I messed up my ankle on my clutch foot this evening. Keeping it iced and elevated but I'm hurting a bit.

The trail is easy to find and easy to navigate for those still going.
Sorry.

Deer Springs I think is the name of it. Deer Mountain, Deer Poop.
It's just north of Escondido on the west side of the 15.

Edit: yeah it's Deer Springs.

Directions to Lawrence Welk Village Trails: Difficulty Rating from 2+ to 3+

From San Diego go north on I15 to Deer Springs Rd. /Mountain Meadow Rd.(north of Escondido). Go right at end of off-ramp then quick left on to Champagne Blvd. Continue to Lawrence Welk Dr. and go left under the Freeway. Take a left on Lawrence Welk Ct. and go to the end. .

The swelling has gone down a bit on my ankle but I'm limping pretty good.
Chris, did you go? I couldn't get hold of Richie yesterday at all so I doubt he went.

Yeah, Chris met me out there. Had a good time and I'll go out there again. We did what I call the "Squeeze II". It's a spot that goes between two huge boulders with a warning sign on the entrance. I'm sure Chris will post pics soon.
