Welder

Hello, I really want to learn how to weld and I am not sure where to start. I don't have any equipment and I was hoping that someone here would be willing to teach me. I live in the Clairemont area so it would be great if someone lives nearby. I could pay you something.

Have you looked into classes at a local vo tech school. sometime they will let someone take a few weeks of classes to see if they like it.
This would go a long way to letting you know about equipment when buying as well.

Yeah, I thought about it but it looks expensive (I have no job) - bad economy I guess. Nobody is hiring unless you know someone?

Palomar college has a comprehensive intro to welding course that's pretty cheap.

You can pick up a low-power MIG welder really cheap at Harbor Freight for around $90 if you can hit it on a sale. It's not going to be very powerful but should be enough for smaller projects and teaching yourself technique.

I live in Clairemont and have a welder but I don't think I'm qualified to teach anyone but next time I do a project you can come watch.

Getting a cheap-o welder is a good start to practice the concepts. Keep watching craigslist.
