lawrence welk is a little bit north of escondido...there is no site for it......there's a bit of controversy about it. we've gone up there many times. we have been stopped by the cops at the trailhead a few times..but they didn't give us any trouble. one time they just told us to report any cars that we see up there, and another time we were coming off the trail and they were checking to see if we were drinking or doing drugs(they had an explorer pulled over with 4 guys handcuffed i guess for that reason) as far as your buddy's tacoma.....kind of iffy. when i had my blazer the 4wd wasn't working and i did alright with the exception of bronco ditch. its about a mile up the beginning of the trail. it gets very narrow and very loose so you have to keep on the gas or you'll slide in. if you do slide in, it'll take a long while to get out. over the past few times we've gone it gets worse and worse, and i'm sure the rain won't help one bit. you could try it i guess, just make sure you have tow ropes and some spare time. it took a winch to get my blazer out. my buddy's yj slid in because he didn't have it in 4wd. he finally got in engaged and it took a little bit but it came out eventually. jpjeeper probably knows that area the best so he would be the one to talk to about it.

Ok and should i head up there with someone who has been there before or hit it with a couple of my buddys from school... although they all have 2wd trucks... and like to make fun of my jeep and tell me how horrible it will do offroad... haha

Now that i think about it all i think it would be best to head up there with someone from here.

Last thing so i take the 15 north from the 78 and i get off at......

i would suggest going with someone who's been there....just because of that first ditch. the rest of the trails can be somewhat easy, there are a few parts that are fun. there is a ton of trails up there so make sure you remember where you went. i'm not quite sure where the 78 is....and again jpjeeper would be a good one to ask. also about going with jp....he's old, meaning if the cops are there, most likely they'll reason with him a little easier than some highschool or college kids. but i guess you don't have to go with someone who's been there....but if you're the only 4wd i wouldn't recommend it, because your jeep WILL go much futher than their little 2wd's and it would be nice to have at least 4wd's for bronco ditch, one in front and one in back.

no problem. jp is kind of hit or miss...he has all these "business trips" to go on and then he's always saying stuff about being with his "family" but when he is in town i think he tries to go out as much as possible.

I sent you a PM snowman.

With this rain it should be good up there. Its not like lawrence welk, its more like going up a mountain with 1 sorta fun 4lo spot and if its muddy, the whole way up is fun.

Well, you were right, its accross the street from lawrence welk resort. Drive to the texaco then go under the freeway. go to your first LEFT and follow that road all the way to the end. You will pass a gate on your right... ignore the first one. You will go all the way to the end of the road. There will be a forestry gate, it is UNLOCKED, open it up and go through... don't linger at the gate to long, cops like to bust kids for drinking and partying at this gate.

As far as two wheel drive trucks... I would say DON'T... as far as going alone DON'T EVER WHEEL ALONE.

That being said, I just showed this to my 19 year old son, and he might want to go with you. He has a stock YJ and did it last weekend with me. He calls my Jeep the Cheat code of jeeps... lockers and lifted. He had some issues and needed a strap once but for the most part did well up there.

I would not go without somebody that has gone before.

That being said, I will not be back in town until the 16th of December. I go almost everytime I get in town. There are lots of things for all levels. The only problems are Bronco ditch (Named after Nates (Blazer that we called a bronco because it made him mad)) and Bronco top hill (Named after a bronco top that was destroyed there and left in the bushes. If you make those two obsticles you will be fine. My son did it but I had to tell him the lines.

Good luck if you can't wait till mid Dec... Switch has been and he is stock

ALERT Snowman, I sent you a PM with a wrong turn in it... USE THESE DIRECTIONS..
