Change of plans for me. I'll be dropping a 4.0HO from a '98 TJ in the CJ this weekend.

I'm not Jeff, but....

If you are alone, place a crumpled up towel or blanket for a soft place for it to land on, make sure the axles are out far enough, and use two pry bars and apply equal pressure on each. Just pry it out. You can also give the carrier a couple taps with a rubber mallet to jar it loose a little first.
If you have help, have somebody catch it when it pops out.
Hope that helps.

Good time to be buying

This weeks haul: set of mirrors for the half doors and to replace the broken one on the full door; a set of Poison Spyder LED corner guards, JKS discos, a set of sliders and various bits and pieces

I went to the stealership today and they wanted $26.50 each, and you have to order them. Ebay has them much cheaper.
Sent you a PM

From what I've read, the lower portion of the door area in all the tubs are the same, and it only changes with the windshield angle, which has no affect on the lower half doors. YJ doors fit CJs etc... but the latches are different on the newer Jeeps.
That's why I posted the question. What latches are those? Mine have a pin capture. Do you just remove the pin assembly and the latch just hooks the tub?
I meant for your party Rik! I can't make the one thats happening this weekend, but I'll be at yours in May.
I don't know how the latches are different, so I'll try em out and see what needs to happen. Thanks!

what Rik said. sometime brake cleaner will help if there is oil suction holding it but otherwise pry on something that is not a sealing surface or a gear.

If anyone is serious, I have a utility trailer, and an appliance dolly. I am coming down to Jeff's on Sat. With a few people we could have some fun with it.

Set it up and let me know!!

The only thing I know is ... I know nothing!!

Insert clever saying by someone well known here...

I don't belong to an official "CLUB" (does anyone remember this issue??) but I think that I will "crash" the party anyways.

Normally once it breaks free they drop right out. I know yours does; we have had it out enough.

Is the inner shaft on the pass side out enough?

Is it binding on the pinion?

There's a typo or the guy doesn't know better...

3:55 is the case break down, 3:73 is the case break up. The one in the pic is definately a 3:55 down because the ring gear mount is too far from the center. The 3:73 moves the ring gear mount closer to the center to accomodate a smaller pinion gear. Just an FYI if you didn't know.

I'll throw them in the back seat and bring 'em with me.

Quick!! .... Call Jeraldo Rivera!! It's Al Capone's long lost safe!

my original hard doors had the pin style latch. all I had to do to convert to those was remove the pin latches and actual pin piece and put the flat bar style capture things on instead. that being said, they are really finicky, usually have to try 3 or 4 times to get my doors to close and latch

eric, just try and twist the pinion a little. u have the front shaft out anyway. slap a monkey wrench on the pinion yoke and try to rotate it back and forth a little to see if it will work loose
