cool. I'm gonna try a few other things 1st. Need to jump the ac compressor to get the clutch to run so I can service it. It may be low causing the pressure sw to not allow it to run. Also need to check fan relays, going to change the thermostat and a couple of other things.... the print hints (not a good print) that the fans can be forced to run seperate from the fan relay thru the pcm via the temp cooling sensor.. so I may have a bad cooling fan relay. what happend to the days when you had a water pump, a therm, a radiator and that was it!?
Lost half my skid plate (and transmission) about a quarter mile from the top of pancake rock yesterday. Of course I forgot my bag of bolts I always carry on the day I rip 3 out. Found one on the trail, and take one from the other side but every time I dropped on a rock they ripped out again. Was able to limp back down using a bolt from my winch plate and my tow strap. Be careful out there, and always bring plenty of water. 2 of us drank 28 bottles.
Anyone have a valve cover laying around for a 4.2 or 4.0? Looking for one with the 7 holes not the 15.
I have a Clifford "performance" valve cover I pulled off my 73 CJ 258/4.2, has the 7 hole. Not sure if it fits your application or not. Selling it on CL for $75obo. Have you checked the thermostat or pulled codes yet?
By the time I got back down there the code wasn't there.
Drove 135 mi to my mom's place Sunday morning after 3 hrs of sleep and one hell of a work night. 94 degrees at 930 am.. That was nice.... Especially working in a car-port. On the way down I got a call saying her battery is now dead. So I took it to autozone to get tested for 2 hrs. Came back good. Put it in.. Click click.... New battery 130.00
Now I can do some troubleshooting. Checked all the fuses. Good. Put in a new ac fan relay & main fan relay. No help yet... Tested her thermostat. It worked. BUT it was caked in a light tan/calcium looking mud.. Took a hose to the block & the radiator best i could & put in a new therm. Used a radiator flush kit that prob didn't work for 10.00. Then some 70/30 coolant. As soon as the water started to burble & get pissy, THE FAN KICKED IN. YES!!!
Now on to the AC issue. no fan, no compressor clutch.... I pulled the pressure switch, jumped it & the fan & clutch kicked in. Cool. Must be low on freon. Went & bought a re-fill. 40.00... loaded her car to 50-55 psi. still blows hot air & the clutch kicks in for like 2 seconds then kicks off. 7 seconds later, 2 sec on then off.. no cold air.. WTH?! looks like it might be a shot condenser. Not going to play around w/expensive ac parts so I'll take it to a shop to get diagnosed. Just glad my mom can finally drive the car w/o it overheating.
