First and foremost, the stock has been customized and notched for the customized bolt. The OEM bolt handle just sticks way out the side and doesn't fit in the cutout at all, looks completely out of place.

Secondly, the bolt was customized and nickle plated, it matches quite well with all of the shiny parts, whereas the OEM bolt is just a dull gun metal gray.

Lastly, I'd imagine a scope raised up high enough to clear the bolt (would need to be about 3/4") would cause aiming issues at close range (sub 100 yards)?

The bolt needs to raise up about 10* more to open it..

This was my late grandfathers rifle, and it's such a nice rifle. I may not have very many things as nice as this rifle, but when I do I really care about them and would rather fix them right over half assing it like this, especially since it's a WWI era rifle someone has taken a lot of care and put their skill into it to modernize it a bit. Out of all of my possessions, my rifle is my most prized...

If anybody would like to lend a hand and see if they can help repair the broken bolt then speak up, I'd be appreciative...
Xpress I didn't see the original post (disclaimer) What rifle are you working on? I assume a 1903 or a Garande? I'd say set it up for long range if that's what you're going to use it primarily for and train through the modifications on close range. Probably be cheaper to acquire a close range weapon if that's a concern. Give me a holler if you're not keen on going with major modifications.

I like crowds but I hate lines. TDS tends to be a bunch of jailhouse/felony morons on Saturday night looking for trouble at the playground/notches. Every yr seems to get worse. I'll probably head out but prefer to camp out and explore the old tds area's. The obstacle course thing sucks.

It's a Springfield 30-6 M1903A3. For the most part, the rifle gets used for target shooting sub 100 yards. Maybe the occasional hunting trip, I haven't tested its long range capabilities yet, though I would absolutely love to..
