Acquired a rebuilt 5.2 block and heads tonight

Block looks rebuilt, all pistons seem clean, no carbon burns on them, cylinder walls look freshly honed, thoughts?

There's some real real light surface rust, little TLC and it'll be gone. Thinking this engine is going to get some fun parts put in it before it goes into the YJ.

It's looks clean but looks can be deceiving. Did you get any receipts with it? I might be acquiring a zj with 5.2 in the near future. I'm curious to see how your swap goes.

On a different subject is anyone in here a wiz at shock valving? I think I've got a good idea on what I want to do but it never hurts to talk to other people.

did some fab work for a production company today. spent a couple hours cutting welds on 3/8" plate. :barf:

turned my HF angle grinder into a fireball after about 2 hours. guess I'll take it back and get a new one...

if you do any angle grinder work and haven't tried the new Pearl blue cutoff disks, give them a try. I was very impressed. they last about twice as long and cut significantly faster than the redline stuff... which was already 5x better than any other disk I have tried (dewalt, makita, 10x better than HF)

dont use sand paper or anything abrassive on the deck of the block. a thousandths of an inch 0.001 can cause issues. If it's scratched up or the rust is of issue, take it to a machine shop, have them deck it and build it accordingly. Looks are deceiving. I'd never buy someone elses build. Theres usually a reason why they gave up the ghost and passed it along to someone else. Not being negative, being realistic...

It came from a friend who needed to clear out space. I don't think I'd be sanding the block, using something a lot more gentle...

I'll probably drop it by a machine shop and see what they think...

Had a tech buddy of mine look at the 5.2 block today, said just to use a rag and some WD40 to wipe the rust off the surface. Came right off, didn't have to rub hard even...

Gotta move the sumbish into the basement in the next day or two, keep it out of the elements...

----------

anybody know of a good frame shop around town? I have this feeling that the drivers side frame rail is tweaked forward of the firewall... It's not straight like the passenger side is... Would like to get it repaired...

My $30 autozone grinder has done me well, so far. I need to get the wrenches for my dad's dewalt/other grinders for the heavy duty stuff.

Dude, I love it here. I don't feel nearly as white trashy here as I do in SD. We went to Wal-Mart yesterday. THAT was an experience worth having! LOL we're headed to Disney world today for two days then the air boat thing on Saturday. Not too many jeeps here, but a lot of redneck chariots (mud trucks) lol
