Easily done in a day.

I ran from east county San Diego down to ocotillo, down canyon sin nombre, out to diablo drop off, down the dropoff out to the wind caves, hiked around the wind caves, turned around and headed back up the dropoff and drove back to San Diego. We left about 4am and were back in San Diego by 11am

No. But I don't think I need one. I looked at the latch the other day and it works fine. I think just having the handle pushed too far into it caused it to bind up. I think I'm just gonna pop the dent and run it

Well, I got one axle spindle nut off. Now, the other will have to wait till next week. My week will be completely FUBAR'D from tomorrow on. Think I am going to invest in a good electric impact. Need to make some money first!

maybe... I have a feeling that it has been a long time coming.

what is interesting to me, is that I never heard it break, never felt it and up until the point at which I tried to lock my front locker sunday morning, it was not broken.

once the sidegear broke it took out the piston and thats where the air leak came from. it must have happened when I pulled out of camp towards the training center... any longer and the rest of the inside of the dif would probably be chewed up.

when the actual event happened that started the stress? could have been building for a long time, could have been when I killed a hub... not sure.

the suck part is that this is an older RD30 and nobody has parts for it and ARB does not mfg them anymore. so I am rabidly hunting down parts to see if anyone has them.. if not I will be out a locker

being the older ARB (as mine was), did any of the 5 or 6 bolts along the outside of the locker, that hold the diaphram section in shear? Did you find anything else broken other than the sidegear? The reason my 30 began to fail and luckily I caught it before anything happened other than a few sheared bolts was because the 30 housing is just to thin and weak to keep the preload that the ARB needs. When you can take your diff cover off, unbolt the 4 carrier bolts and the whole carrier falls out into your hand, you know your pre-load was ZERO. Later model ARB's seem to be less prone to failure. The older ones? Watch out.

nothing else broken. got lucky.

all the housing bolts were loose and missing the locking tabs except 1.

managed to source the piston, just need to source the side-gear and I will get it back together.

I think having a truss will help from now on as well as running that ruffstuff cover I've had for the past year sitting on a shelf.
