How's about we do pancake rock. Ive never been and the youtube video's look pretty cool. Once you're at the top of the rock is there a way off it other than the way you went up? going down would be WAY scarier IMO.

I was thinking about meeting you guys tomorrow. The big issue for me is the rain. My CJ isn't fun to drive in the rain with my mismatched hardtop.

I'm coming from Vista, where are you guys meeting tomorrow?

Thanks

Chappy

Tomorrow calls for sunny weather until the PM. Your concern should be the chill factor 59 high & 36 low I wouldnt wanna be driving home on the freeway w/o a top on in 40 + - weather... BRR. But I'm just a Californian.

Pancake is fine by me, I need to be home sort of early anyway. Usually meet at the Valero or Chevron off Tavern road in Alpine.

Say about 9am?

This is from JustRuns about pancake

Quote:
*From El Cajon (I8 & 67)*

Go east on I8 about 21 miles. At Japatul Rd. (Exit 40) go south
approximately 4.5 miles to Lyons Valley Rd. Continue south on Lyons Valley
Rd. approximately 4.5 Miles to the entrance to Barret Correction Facility.
Air down at the open area near the entrance. Continue on Lyons Valley Rd.
south approximately 1 mile. The trailhead will be a very sharp right as you
round a curve.

*Caution: *

When turning off of Lyons Valley Rd, the trail immediately becomes very
rough. Vehicles need to immediately go into 4 WD as you turn off Lyons
Valley Road. There is only enough room at the trailhead for 2 or 3 vehicles
and the trailhead is in a dangerous curve. Vehicles should be spaced out to
avoid problems at the trailhead.

http://www.justruns.com/files/Carvacre.pdf

Note: There is now a locked gate at the north end of the trail where it
crosses private land before reaching Japatul Road. One must return out the
same way in. I recommend turning around at Pancake Rock rather than
continuing toward Japatul Rd beyond Pancake Rock

If I did it again it would be better to pass the trail head and come in from the other way if you have more than a couple of jeeps. It really is on a blind curve.

I usually meet at the Park and ride off of I8 and Hwy 79. Then go to the air down area at the entrance to Barrett Honor Camp.

DAMNIT! I love that trail! If I didn't have to work, I'd go again.

Nice seeing you guys last night. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Chevron or Valero? If I'm not there by 9:10 It either means the sister in law changed her mind about the desert or I'll meet you at the top. I'll be on ch21 on the CB. I'll check the board before I crash tonight!!
