Looking to hook up with some beginning to intermediate off-roaders in the San Diego area.

I am a newb to jeeping but not to common sense. I bought a jeep to try, and if I like it I will buy another and give this one to my daughter.

I am truly a quick learner and looking for other beginners or some old salt that is just willing to share the wisdom of their experience.

I would like to go jeeping at least once a month and of course more during the learning stages.

Currently, fire roads are all I have found around hear and a few construction areas.

What I am proposing is that all the way south newbs UNITE... if we can find some old salts to come along we can all learn faster. But I say lets get this thing rolling...

WHO IS WITH ME....?

Current jeep is

88 YJ
31x10.5.15 BFG ATs
I6 258 carbed
Pretty good condition but I am replacing all the parts that should have been replaced ages ago. (Hoses/clamps/Top etc...)
(The jeep sat for 3 years so I'm shaking out all the cobwebs...)

ok - this fan is driving me absolutely crazy!! I'm at my whits ends and about to push this thing out into the alleyway if i dont get some closure asap. I can't for the life of me get the belt to stop squeeking. The belt began to squeek shortly after i had purchased the thing (Maybe a year or so ago, i dont recall exactly). The belt was a little dry so i replaced it. a few months down the road it began to squeek again. i tightened it up and it went away. now its squeeking, again. the belt is in perfectly fine working order. i took a wire wheel and hit all the pulleys so they're clean and unbrazed, they all spin fine with no resistance and the alignment appears to be spot on. i've adjusted the thing with the engine running and no matter which way i go when the motor is cold it squeeks anywhere from mildly annoying to wanting to get my shotgun out and blast a hole thru the radiator. i'm at a loss. anybody else have this problem? its freaking embarrasing driving down the road sometimes. FYI - it goes away when its really warm out. maybe i got a bunk belt? it appears to be fine. FYI i feel like an idiot making a post about a damn fan belt. ugh......lol

oh yea, i picked up some metal for my sliders this weekend. i need a pipe bender so i can begin to work on a cage...

Jeff some people have done that but it scratches the deck and when you go down a bumpy road it rattles against the deck when nothing is on it to hold it down.
It's best to keep the rubber matt. It's 63 inches by 48 by 5/8. I used 1X2 around the edge to keep small stuff from rolling off.
My PM box is full, I don't feel like emptying it, and I don't want to buy another premium membership for a while. Gunna' see if I can live without it. I've had one since day one here and I really didn't take advantage of anything except the avatar pic and the larger mailbox. Both I can live without.

What engine, what kinda fan? Did it used to have a fan clutch and you used a fan spacer or a flex fan instead?

Sorry $14.99 at Oreillys just checked available at all stores I checked. Are you putting a new one on? If the old one has never been off- just cut and split it- a puller might break before it comes off
I got loan one from Orreilys and its worthless is was staring to strip so I decided to leave it alone. I have to find a heavy duty one to take off my pit arm or do what your suggesting and replace it with a new pit arm
