No problem got an extra 6.1 layin around I can take off your hands? I'll trade you a case of beer for it. Whadaya say Natty Light? If I did any swap it'd be for a diesel with the Genright Safari gas tank. That way I could go for miles without a fill up.
Chrysler is actually staying on top of it pretty well. They have called me about 6 times getting updates and updating me on what they are telling the dealer. Hopefully it will be fixed in the near future.

yea... I am going to make a trip to the JY next week for all the parts for the 231 swap. the Aussie will also go in next week.
and if there is time I will get my header fixed next week... if not the week after.
I'm debating trying to get my rocker replacement done before TDS...
I figure it will take 2 or 3 days of Fab work. if I can fit it into my schedule I will get it done.

Alright guys, I need some help -
How do you shoehorn bigger springs in?!
I tried to install my 2'' lift yesterday, and got stuck halfway through. What do I need to disconnect, to drop the axle far enough? The swingarm? Steering mechanisms?
Aagh..........

what suspension style are you running? leaf springs? coils?
you'll want to disconnect the drag link from the pitman arm to drop the axle low enough to get the new springs in.
if you have leaf springs then other than that you will need to unbolt the shocks, track bar and the sway bar from the axle.
if you have a TJ or XJ with a coils suspension, you will need to unbolt the track bar, sway bar, drag link. its not necessary, but you can unbolt the upper CA's and the driveshaft to allow even more room to work.

Context is great, isn't it? Yep, its a TJ. I was talking about coil springs, in the front.

Easiest way is to pick up a spring compressor. You could probably find one at Harbor Freight for not too much. I'm on the lookout for one as well. Had a spring pop out on the trail and it was a booger to get back in until someone ran home to grab theirs. I'm going to see what the trails are like here and maybe throw one in the tool box just in case. I usually pack overkill for runs but I've never had to leave the Jeep on the trail either.

yea.... that helps.
in the front you should unbolt the sway bar links, the drag link at the pitman arm, and the track bar. you can also unbolt the upper CA's and driveshaft for a little extra working room.
in the rear you'll want to unbolt the sway bar links, and track bar at least.
Edit: you could go the spring compressor route... IMO those things are a PITA and really only useful for emergency trail repairs, or small cars.

yeah id kick the sway bar loose and maybe the track bar. that should give you enough droop to shoe horn them in. As I recall that was what we ended up doing to put the 2" lift coils in the front of Erics XJ way back when

All of the above; disconnect sway bar, shocks, probably have to disco one end of the track bar,and remove the wheels of course...
Be sure it's safely on jack stands and then for a little extra use a floor jack under the rotor on one side and slowly jack that side up, the other side will drop down.
I've installed quite a few 4" spring lifts an TJ's and have yet to use a spring compressor. I do have a cheater bar that is flat one end that I've used to encourage a spring or two to cooperate a time or two though.
And if all else fails get Eric or Jimmy to stand on top of the axle on one side, it'll drop wayyyy down

Don't use compressors!
Unhook sway bar links, axle end of track bar, and shocks. Put the passenger side in first. Use jack to lift driverside of axle up to bump stop. Push passenger side down and slip in spring. The driver side can be done without lifting passenger side. You must put passenger side in first. I put in 4" springs like this.
To remove front springs always do driver side first.
If you need help may be able to shoot by. Where in SD are you?

I've been fiddling with it for hours, didn't even see your post......
I live in Del Cerro, 92120. I'll be back at it at 7am Saturday, so if you're in the area, come on by (i have work between 11:45 and 4pm) morning or afternoon
5488 Barclay Ave
Using a lot of leverage, I already got the passenger side in. I could still use help (or a word of advice) on the rest. Havent been able to get the steering disconnected, or the track bar, but that's the first thing I'll be working on tomorrow.
Thanks dudes!
