Steve, do you have an idea as to how long the Ready Welder gift certificate is good for?
I've been wanting a Ready Welder for a LONG time & if things go well tomorrow for me - I'll be in the market.

Did Coyote Canyon yesterday on a whim and had a great time. The wife is slowly coming around to off-roading. She hates the bouncing around so she walked the rocky section. She prefers riding her own dirt bike to the Jeep. Finished up with dinner and desert in Julian.
Visibility was terrible coming down into Santa Ysabel.

IMO the ready welder is a waste of money. I'd rather invest in a second battery and use a welding stick and some jumper cables for the very rare time you might need to weld on the trail.

I suppose it depends on where you regularly wheel whether or not it's rare. I suspect you don't wheel where I do.
It is not uncommon at all for us to weld (think Johnson Valley/Hammers). Almost everybody in the group I hang with carries a Ready Welder. It's certainly not because they can not use something else or have not tried other methods.
If rare = 3 times per day, you can quickly appreciate having a Ready Welder in the group.

So Richie and I hit the Ecology in Otay today, on the hopes of getting a fuel pump for his build.
As luck would have it, that '95 YJ still had the tank in it. So we dropped the tank (and of course disposed of the little bit of gas left in it properly).
He needed a emergency brake pedal too, and there it was.
So we got the tank, skid plate, fuel pump/sending unit, and emergency brake for $58.
Those two YJs are pretty well picked over. The '95 4 banger still has the axles with 4:10s and the AX5 tranny and t-case tho'. The '94 still has the bare engine. They wanted $216 plus a core charge for the D-30. Some fool will pay it, but not this fool.
Question we had..... We intend to clean the tank well, but am I right in assuming when they seized the motors in the CFC vehicles, they poured a crystallizing chemical into the motor oil to seize it? I heard it was poured directly into the oil filler and they ran the RPMs up to seize the pistons when the oil crystallized. True or false?
Last thing...
Right next to the entrance, behind a fence, I spotted this '95 YJ. I asked when it will be put out on the lot, and she said at least one week when the ground dries up a bit. I'll bet it's out there by this weekend rain or shine.
Here's a sneak pic of it......

I've done the battery welding method a few times. It works in a pinch. I have also used a ready welder direct from the vendor at an event in the desert (think it was Desert Fun) to repair my exhaust and I gotta say, I definitely prefer the Ready Welder. One of my buddies has one and it was very effective to repair a broken driveshaft and a broken anti wrap bar at TDS 2 years ago. The ready welder is on my wish list too, but for now I just carry jumper cables and a tube full of welding rod and some old school welding goggles.

Notice any CJ's while you were there? I'm thinking of adding a CJ tailgate to my TJ.
