Well, I have found a new love. It is snowmobiling. Holy crap is it fun! Kim and I rented some this weekend up in Lake Tahoe. 15 mins into it Kim yells, "We gotta get some of these!"

The weather was great traveling up the mountain but coming back down was another story. Big thanks to Jeff for letting me borrow his chains for my rental.

I want one soooo bad!

Kim and my mom

The road back....

Looks like you are bringing the weather with you, except it took the flight before yours. Supposed to get snow at 2k feet, mandatory palomar trip.

Ran into a snag with Richie's Jeep build. (4.0 head on a 4.2 block)
Head is on, blocked the mechanical fuel pump with a home made plate, distributor in, coil, but when we tried to mount the alternator it isn't fitting right, and it's supposed to.
We are using the 4.2 bracket with the alternator that came out of the 4.0 since the computer regulates the voltage. The 4.2 one had an internal regulator.
It's the top part of the bracket that isn't fitting correctly.
Everything else is going fine, and we are about to start the wiring harness stuff when we get this problem solved.
Anybody have a clue?

different bracket, completely different brand of alternator.

you will probably need the 4.0 bracket to fit the engine then fab on the other one. Hopfully its steel and you can weld something to it.

Of course it's cast of some cheap alloy.
The mount for the 4.0 is totally different the way it connects to the block.
We have the lower half of the alternator mounted to the bracket and mounted to the block, but the upper half is too small of an arc to reach the upper bolt hole. We may have to fabricate an extension for it. The idler pully mounts to that bracket also.
Not sure what to do. We start on the other side of the engine tomorrow installing the intake and exhaust manifolds, power steering pump, and fuel lines.
Hope all this work is worth it. I'm sure it will be when it's done.
Painted the steel dash today, ready to be re-installed.
Took the broken tailgate off and sanded the new one, did some sanding on the new grill too.
Gunna' be a pretty nice YJ when it's done.

They can be a blast. I grew up on those things living in Illinois.
bad thing is they only (or are made for) playing in the snow.

On another note.... My company is hiring. Some of you know what I do and how relaxed it is. Check it out if interested. Relocation required....

If anyone knows of a good sound reliable transportation car for sale that a friend of mine can buy for around $1500, $2,000 is his upper limit, please let me know.

My friend is a former mechanic who knows a POS from a good car so no junkers with hidden problems please. It's for his college student son who needs to commute up to Orange County on a regular basis so it has to be reliable.

PM me if you know of a specific vehicle that meets these requirements. We don't need any advice on where to look like Craigslist or Auto Shopper, just a lead to a specific low-cost car would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Made progress on Richie's Jeep today....
Got the exhaust and intake manifolds installed, trimmed down the YJ harness, modified the power steering pump bracket and mounted the pump.
Starting to take shape.

All I did to mine is change the oil, air filter, and gave it a bath.
Tomorrow I'll load it onto the trailer and head on out.
It'll be good to get out of Dodge for a few days.

Been up to my neck in wiring for two days now. Got the new switch panel painted (decided the Aluminum was a bit too bling bling for my Jeep) flat black. Got it mounted. I think I have most of my old and un-necessary wiring removed from the YJ along with more old zip ties than I can count. Got the new Hellas on the bumper. Got a fuse block re-mounted under the dash for some of the low draw interior stuff. punched a few new holes in the firewall and grommeted them to run wires thru. Got a hunk of Cat 6 cut down and set up for my relay activation duties. Got 3 relays back in and wired back up. Hopefully one more day should do it and I'll get everything wired back up nice, neat and properly and be able to put the dash back together. What a mess. I'm both regretting deciding to do this and glad i decided to do it at the same time. The wiring on my rock lights was especially shotty. If I knew then what I know now.
