Consider it done...

I may have to post again in the Southwest section if it's not already there

Well....my company doesn't call it "sea pay". They call it "Extended work week". Basically its overtime pay which will help pay for my kids Christmas.

Oddly enough - the food has been pretty decent on this ship. But that thing they call a rack sure has room for improvement. And....what's all that whistling all about?

OK I started this in the Temecula thread but there is only 4 of us so I am not getting much traffic. I need an opinion what would you guys do in my situation? I have the opertunity to pick up another YJ (Now mind you I do not have a jeep at the moment) It is a 1990 4.2 carbed, hard top, full doors, brand new 31's or 32's, don't know about lift. Runs fine but wont pass smog (he says because of the carb), also it has a salvaged title due to a theft. He is the original owner and it was stolen about a year ago for the hard top and doors but he has since replaced. I won't have pics until tomorrow but he was asking $1500 and over the phone I offered him $1000 but said he would take more like 12 or 1300. Would you get it? My situation is I would have to borrow part of the money which I really hate doing but I think this coiuld be a great deal if it turns up fairly clean.

Maybe. If the body and frame is good, running gear mechanically sound and if in fact it is just the carb $1200 or so is a pretty good price. A factory carb, TBI, LS1, Hemi or 4BT conversion with D60's, put on real round Jeep headlights, lots of options

You realize of course it'll cost you a fortune once you buy it. Say bye-bye to the paychecks

If I needed a Jeep I'd seriously look at it

I have had a few jeeps now and many other 4x4 projects so I know the costs involved.

I said goodbye to my paychecks when I met my other half so that is nothing new

I don't Neeed a Jeep I just want another Jeep, I have a couple DD's already, this would just get me back on the trails and I feel that if it is like you said a sound vehicle I think it could be good

Well, as I remember, the Chiefs mess serves better food then the enlisted mess.

That's why they call it a Chiefs belly

The smog thing is something I would seriously question. Ask to see the smog report so you can check out the numbers and see if there are any other things listed as failure. This includes all the physical stuff that it has to pass. My Cherokee didn't have a smog certificate when I bought it but she had one that was only expired a few weeks that showed it passing.

Are the doors the same color as the body?

$1,200 is a good price (try looking in the bargain bin for the $400 YJs) if the frame and tub are rust free.

I will definitly check out the failed smog report.

There is a bargain bin? I found several 6-900 dollar yj's and CJ's but it was for the frame and tub only so for a couple hundred more I can get one that is complete.

Yes the doors do match. I should be getting some pics of it today and from there if it looks good I will take the drive to check it out.
