Hey guys - I am picking up a cheap little trailer to tow behind the Jeep. I want to grab some used tires to put on it before I tow it home from Riverside. The guy I am buying it from says that he thinks that LT245R16's will work... I know very little about tire sizes...I was going to look on Craigslist and ask around to see if anyone has tires I could grab / buy that I can take with me. What different sizes do you think will work if I don't find exactly LT245R16's?

Also, I have my original wheels from the Jeep - so I was thinking of using those and mounting tires on them and then driving up for the trailer. Would those wheels work do you think? The ones on there look pretty thin...and not a lot of extra room but I can't tell. The stock spares I have are these:

Gambler
* 15x8 aluminum
* 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern
* Backspacing = 5.25"
* Optional wheel with 30" tire package
* Offset = +19 mm

Third thing is that the tail lights need rewired it seems...so I would need those magnetic mounted tail lights for the drive down - but I'd rather not buy a set for just one short trip...does anyone have a set I could borrow?

Here is the trailer - pretty, isn't it? hehe:

Thanks!

You are missing a number in your tire size. Metric should be 245/XX R16. The second number is the ratio of height to width. I would imagine any tire mounted on a 16 wheel should work as long as it isn't rubbing the trailer.

I am just using the number he gave me - but I think when that number is missing the ratio is assumed to be 82% or something like that...

So - yeah - I guess I was kind of thinking that as well about the 16's - as long as I don't go wide - maybe try to find a thinner tire...like 9.5's versus 12.5's...maybe some 29's, 30's, or 31's even... What I ought to do is get it home first and then figure that out - maybe the current tires are good enough to get home on... Hmmmm.

How big is that trailer? You could potentially use my trailer to haul the other one in. Maybe turned on it's side or upside down? Mine is 4x8 with low sides and will carry that weight easy.

Why 16's? 15's are cheaper and easier ro find.
I have some magnetic lights you can use also. I live right near the 15/215 split if you don't hook up with Jason for his. We could also pull the wheels off Richie's Jeep so you could get it home. Lemme' know.

On another note...

Anybody have a trencher? The one I have access to is no longer running. I have two trenches to dig, each about 200' long by six inches wide. I haven't found a trencher for sale on craigslist that is reasonable yet. Renting in $150/day. Not too bad, but I would rather just buy one, but I need one now.

I don't know the dimensions - I will have to ask him when he gets home tonight. Definitely an option there - thanks, Jeff!

Thanks, Rik - I appreciate the offers - I'll let you know if I need to take you up on them!

putting it in Jeff's trailer would be the safest way to go.

Are those tail lights from an old ford falcon or something?

I was checking those out and wondering the same thing! When I get it I'll take a closer look at them.

Thanks Chris! I'll let you know if I need to borrow them. Yeah, I saw it advertised and jumped on it to snag it...I've got some ideas for using it... I've actually run a couple of trails with the guy selling it - and I got it for a steal I think!

Hopefully the wheels on the trailer aren't the same as the one on the tongue. That one is a 1966 or 1967 VW Beetle 5x205mm wheel.
