Pancake Rock Closed?!

I just heard that Pancake Rock is currently closed! Can anyone confirm this? I had plans to head out there this coming Sat (the 19th) with a few rigs, but if it is closed I will need to find another trail to run.

Ok thanks. That's a bummer! Is Corral Canyon the only other area that is close?

Are you one of the guys that was going with Tyler? The guy with the white Tacoma?

I was planning to go possibly, we went on a trailride last weekend near pine valley. Looking for something a little more difficult next time.

What about Lawrence Welk?

Is anyone planning a run this Sat? I have myself and two other Jeeps looking for a moderate trail to explore. I figured if pancake was closed I would head to Corral Canyon, but I have only been there once and really don't know my way around that place. We would love to join anyones run if you will have us?!

Went to CC a couple sundays ago and there was only a handful there then. One other group of about 6-8 jeeps and a few quads.

West of the 15 freeway, across from Lawrence Welk Resort..

We ran through parts of Corral Canyon a couple of weeks ago, fun times, worth the trip. try Sidewinder (Trail 8) and Bronco Peak (Trail 3), should keep ya busy

Ok thanks. I went to CC last year with a group and really enjoyed it, but I am not familiar with the place enough to lead a couple new guys up there. How is LW compared to CC? A friend suggested Coyote Canyon, anyone been there?

Ok thanks! I just looking it up on the map and it is a ways out there. Looking for something closer to home that is a fun moderate trail. I am going to look into LW now.

LW is, well, ok... On other forums/threads it's sometimes called TrashHaven, with good reason, it is a common trash/dead body/stolen vehicle dumping area. Doesn't really compare to Corral Canyon.

Coyote Canyon was a fun little trail at one time but they've re-aligned the trails so no more big water crossing and that was the only worthwhile part.

You might look into Oriflamme/Rodriguez Canyons, not difficult runs but there are some areas to play in rocks. If you start on the Banner Grade side you end up at the S-2, you can follow it south and take in The Squeeze and Heart Attack Hill, or bypass that and head south to Vallecito Creek, Canyon Sin Nombre, the arroyos and Diablo Drop Off. From there you can head north up towards Fish Creek, Sandstone Canyon and eventually Ocotillo Wells (some fun canyons on the south side of the highway from Ocotillo Wells), or, you could continue south towards Mortero Wash, Pipkorn Slot and points south, eventually ending up at the I-8.

I wouldn't worry about leading a run at Corral Canyon; run Sidewinder and Bronco Peak, they offer lots of challenges and obstacles, take your time and have some fun. If you're still not sure just hook up with someone at Four Corners, always a few Jeepers there willing to send you in the right direction. If you get lost consider it exploring, if you break we get to make fun of you, win-win, well, for us at least
