Nov. 16, 2013 - 2nd annual Melanoma awareness poker run! Ocotillo Wells

My buddy is putting on an event soon out in Ocotillo wells - It's guaranteed to be a good time - here's the dirt!

Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/events/628995433788078/

----------------------

Our 2nd annual charity melanoma awareness poker run will be held Saturday November 16 at Truckhaven / Ocotillo wells 4X4 Training center off of S22! $20 per vehicle $5 per extra hand $5 per extra dinner!

Being our second run this is going to be very basic! Dinner will be chili dogs, soda and an appropriate adult beverage. We are searching high and low for donations to this event! we will be letting everyone know of the available prizes as they become available!
cheers! wear your sunscreen!

So a little about the event and the charity,

On September 27 2010 I lost the love of my life Michelle Renee Simonson. She passed away in my arms after an 18-month battle with cancer. She was only 26 years old So I created a charity to help continue her legacy as she was taken from us way to early. The charity is called "Michelle cares foundation"

We are a legitimate 501-c 3 nonprofit dedicated to spreading the awareness of melanoma and help with terminally ill melanoma patients. It's been a slow process because it's pretty much a one man show. But we as an organization believe that with education we can help save the lives of thousands of people. We also want to issue small grants to terminally ill patients to help with end-of-life expenses.

Last year I created the poker run as a fun way to help raise awareness in a sport that I love so much. We all spend a lot of time out in the desert in the Sun without giving it a second thought. So this is a way for us all to get together educate each other create some positive change in the world and have a good time doing it.

we hope to see you out in the desert helping us spread awareness and having a good time doing it!

Taylor and I went last year and it was a good trip for a good cause. Good wheeling. All around worth it IMO.

Kayle, the founder of the charity, is a good friend of mine.

we had a ton of fun last year, planning on making it again this year.

the obstacle course alone is worth the drive, but having it go to a good cause is just icing on the cake.

Hoping to have my 8.8 or 60 in the rear and join you, if not I'd still like to come and pay to watch and support the charity (don't trust the D35 with my 35" meats)

From what I understand, the route is as easy or as hard as you want to make it. You should be fine on a D35 if you don't gorillafoot it

New sponsors are

there is nothing hard about the route.

its basically just driving around the desert.

there are a ton of optional lines though, if you want to have fun

some of the "fun" from last year (I was the only one who tried this line oddly enough )

tom playing on the mini rubicon

all the NAXJA peeps that made it out

fun in the obstacle course

With an open rear, there was no throttling out of that one. I spent a long time on the throttle, but the rear was in an undercut and needed a locker to get out of it.

I fully plan on nailing that line when I go back.

As far as the concrete goes: no I didn't make it without a strap. My buddy did, but he goes really sideways with it. I think being on 35"s and a locked rear will make the difference there
