Carrizo Mountain Trail Access

Has anyone taken their rig up Carrizo Mountain lately (north of Ocotillo at the southern end of Anza Borrego)? Someone once told me that there is a seasonal gate but I can't find any more detail, e.g., if it's really closed and which months. Also, what's the road condition and rating? Want to do it before it gets too hot this season.
