Yep, that's the way we went up. I actually went over the rock on the left in the second picture (near that guys arm). I thought it looked like a tougher line.

That is the way we exited. Jerry are you saying that if we enter this side it will take us to a different trail? On both sides the trail marker says John bull trail and I did not see any offshutes at all and I have been across it a few times. Jeff yes we did take it from West to East this last time. Jerry you should head up and we can take the trail from East to West.

All I know is the Ranger who was leading a bunch of us 4x4 club reps around the Big Bear area one day said we were on "John Bull East" at one point and said it was different from the actual John Bull trail. We did not exit what he was calling John Bull East at the Gate Keeper which always led me to believe that as he said, they were two different trails. I could be wrong as that was a long day where we hit 7-8 trails to help insure enough and document activity on them to help keep them open.

If I can make it up there, which is up to the wife right now, I will.

I think it would be interesting to take it the other direction. That long first grade was pretty cool.

I need tires or I'm going to have to air down if we do that trail again.
I liked it tho'.

I was up on Sat and ran JB, the gate keeper is pretty boring right now. and a lot of the rocks have been pushed out.
They did say they are going to try to get the dozer in the next few weeks and rebuild the gate keeper, but who knows when.

Also there was a lot of rock stacking in the trail, we unstacked a few spots.

I am going to BB the 16th, so I probably wont make it up this trip.

We have always ran JB east to west starting at the gate keeper.

OK I think it is official that we are going to either run JB from East to west or that Motino wash trail so just to let anyone know so that you don't get up there and be surprised. It will be a weekend of the more challenging trails.

Do you think I will make it on these tires?

I was joking Jerry, I sold my tires so they are my rollers for the time being. I was about to start my D60 swap but postponed it for this trip. Just a funny looking pic but I bet if I aired them down I could probably scrape through a few things and then winched myself over the next few, I may make it out by June if I try hard enough.

Chris... You still haven't learned how to scale your pictures?
Get with the century!

If you are doing Motino wash I'm gunna' pass. My tires won't make it.
JB east to west I'd be OK.

Rik,

I think there will probably be two groups on this trip. One that wants to do some of the harder trails (Mottino & John Bull) and others that will do Gold Mountain, etc. I'm fine with running John Bull on Saturday and doing Mottino another time. That leaves more time for the Oktoberfest activities anyway

We can then run some of the other trails on Sunday that I've heard about. What does everyone else think???

JB isn't a problem for me. Motino (from what I see in the video) looks like it requires a 4" lift on 35's, or at minimum 33's with good tread which leaves me out. I'm locked but on balder AT's. Airing down I don't think would be enough.
I don't want to buy tires yet because I'm not sure if I'm going SOA on 35's or just sticking with my current setup when I do the engine swap.
But the Oktoberfest sounds like something I could do.
