Thinking about bedliner on my YJ's exterior?? OPINIONS???

So I just got my first jeep a couple months ago when I traded this guy for a 1995 YJ. I love it so far and I love reading up on all the mods and help on here! I'm officially addicted to my jeep my wallet and girlfiriend probably aren't thrilled but whatever

Anyways the paint is kind of beat on the jeep. It's a black jeep with a tan soft top. I am already planning on stripping the interior and bedlining the the whole interior/floor. My question is would a roll on bedliner be a good affordable option for the exterior as well?? Has anybody tried this? Does it hold up well? Does it look nice? Does anyone have pictures?

Much thanks for the opinions and help!

I don't have any great pictures right now but here is what it looks like currently... It needs some work to get it where I want it to be but I'm excited about it!

I think it's a great idea.
Check out the colored bedliner thread.

A friend of mine and I used bed liner on a 74 sportster (tank and fenders) and it was all the rage at a local rally. Everyone wanted to see the $1200 sporty and nobody looked twice at the $20K harleys sitting right next to it.

Just make sure you do a real good job on the prep work. I have seen vehicles turn out nice and I have seen them start peeling in a matter of months. As long as you sand and clean everything good you will be fine.

I am doing mine this coming weekend. The below pics are just dupli-color bumper paint...but I used the spray on with my old Nissan Titan. I was just going to leave the paint as is now...but I dont want to have to worry about getting chips or dings.

I will definitely do this eventually on my 99 TJ. I'm tired of all the wet carpets and the trail scratches. Haha
I am going to do the U-Pol Raptor DIY Raptor kit. I like the texture and am spraying my interior and hardtop the factory tan color and the body the forest green pearl color (which are the colors i have now but they are clear coated not bed lined)
The U-Pol bedliner offers the tintable version where you can color the liner. the entire kit for the black or the tintable (clear) includes the sprayer and the hardener for about $100. But with the tintable, you need to mix 10% urathane base coat with it to get the color and that'll cost you around $50-75.
Good Luck and welcome to the addiction!

Be careful with pearls and metallics in tintable bedliners as they do not always turn out like you hope they will.

Reason for this is the spray method and coating thickness compared to spraying the same pearl/metallic from a regular spray gun.

Schutz guns do not atomize paint the way reg spray guns do and with the pearl particles being so small you can completely lose the effect.
Same with metallics. Speak to the dealer where you buy the color and ask their opinion.

I'd just repaint it. Not with bedliner though unless you like the textured look. I painted my front bumper with bedliner and I like it but don't think I would do the body. That would be too much bedliner for me especially because my interior is bedlined. So my opinion is no bedliner to the exterior.
